My daughter has tomorrow off school. When I was trying to figure out why, Is it weird that I thought of Canadian Thanksgiving before I thought of Columbus Day? (We're American.)

Our MP suggested our down sizing get togethers this year due to Covid...so, it was just DH and I.

Quebec has had increasing numbers falling ill with covid, and Ontatio as well, our two most populous provinces - about two thirds of Canada's 37 million plus.

So our leaders are asking that we not have large family get togethers, but limit our gathering to the people that we relate to on a daily basis.

Happy Thanksgiving! No family or friends gathering this year so it will just be my cousin and my brother unless he has been invited elsewhere. I am going to cook a pork loin roast, scalloped potatoes, gravy, applesauce and cranberry sauce and fresh green beans. My cousin picked up a cherry pie and an apple pie yesterday. Store was all out of pumpkin pie. I am so happy not having to roast a turkey and all the trimmings. Enjoy your day!

I didn't bother with a turkey this year, so yesterday I baked some chicken pieces, roasted some brussels sprouts and made mashed potatoes with sour cream and cream cheese as a nod to my traditional past Thanksgivings.

Then settled in and watched some Netflix shows.

Yesterday we had a small celebration this year with DH's two brothers and one sister, and virtual visits with other family. On the menu was turkey (no stuffing), mashed potatoes, gravy, meatballs, roasted carrots, salad, dinner rolls, apple pie with ice cream and raspberry cream cheese coffee cake. The coffee cake recipe is one of my favorites and is from the Beechwood Inn in Barnstable Village, Massachusetts. I found it in The Great Country Inns of America Cookbook.

Most years we head from Illinois to Ontario to celebrate with DH’s family. Missing it for sure, this year. it seems like many people have their dinner on Sunday, or is it just the people I encounter?

I think a lot of Canadians celebrate on the Sunday so they can have the extra day on Monday before they head back to work. Lots of leftovers to eat

We had a potluck at the lake with a family that has been in our bubble all thru this. I made Swedish meatballs with cranberry sauce on top and wild rice salad.

today we are going to my moms for turkey. I’m on the fence about this. I don’t want To risk her health but she had such a rough time with her mental health in isolation. I don’t want her to go back to that.

Anyways, thanks for the good wishes. It is lovely to have a long weekend and rest.

Happy Thanksgiving to our northern neighbors! And long lost cousins it seems. My mother was born in Windsor, and my US-born daughter, now with a year-old fille of her own, did some fascinating family history research recently and found we have several filles du roi and also filles a marier in our lines, so I'll celebrate in spirit with you all. I know we have millions of cousins in these lines. I'm captivated by the idea of an impoverished young French woman, stepping onto a ship to an unknown and unsettled wilderness region, in hopes of finding other possibilities for her life. That is a nutshell version of a fille a marier. Brave new world, indeed.

Talaveran, my Step Grandmother was a Parent from Windsor and she descends from Roi. For a long while I had been looking for one of the descendants to send obits and prayer cards to and after looking through many family trees found a descendant of hers to send the papers too.

Hope all my friends to the north are having a wonderful thanksgiving. I have fallen in love with Canada ( even though the worst boss I ever had was from Toronto). What a beautiful country.

Happy Thanksgiving everyone. We did our turkey dinner last night over at my sons and DIL.s It was just us and our two sons and their partners - all in our bubble.

We had lots to be thankful for this weekend. We lost our house in a fire on August 31 (and our two kitties) but we are so thankful for friends and especially family who have rallied around us with love and support.
