Help with exterior paint ideas
Hi -
We’re looking to update the exterior of our house with new paint. Last year we upgraded our landscape and the designer we worked with suggested painting our whole house, including the brick, a single color. We love the suggestion, but now that we’re ready to start the project, we have some questions. Would love any feedback!
- We now have a modern landscape, and thought a dark, bold color would look nice on the house. (SW - Gale Force). Is this too dark since we don’t have tons of trim to break the color up?
- If we went dark, do we lighten up the shutters? Should we get rid of the shutters?
- We think we’ll need to brighten the front door since it gets lost in the shadows. Any suggestions for a bright, modern door that wouldn’t feel totally out of place in a traditional neighborhood?
- At first, painting the whole house made sense, but now we’re wondering what all does that include? Do we paint the stairs too? And chimney? Do the siding and brick get painted the same color, or color blocked?
- Any other suggestions on how to improve our exterior - without major structural changes?

Comments (2)Whatever you chose, and I like white, you can't just slap paint on brick and expect it to wear well. You need to use paint specifically for masonry. Romabio is what to use on the brick. I came across this and love the blue: Some others: I could post so many more! Other than a Victorian, this style of house has the most fun, unique, varied, and interesting color palette options. 3 years agoWhat will you do about the downspouts; especially the one right at the front door? I don't mind your shutters too much, but I think you need some interest above the garage. How about a pergola?

First coat of paint went on today. We still need to decide on a door color. We’re leaning to BM - Poppy. We’re also not sure about the garage. Our painter didnt like the idea of painting the whole door and suggested the squares. Not sure how we feel about those. Maybe a little too traditIonal for the look we’re going for. Thoughts?
