I can't imagine the carpet tiles ever laying flat or in place. Why not just pull up the carpet and laying the tile like they were intended?

I will try that Just. I get frustrated with our home because the lay out is so awkward but I fell in love with the trees and the setting so over looked the oddness of it. It also worked well when our DD's were still at home because they had their own level with their bedrooms, a full bath, and a living area that was great when they needed away time. BTW the door that is beside the tv cab is actually a walk in closet. and the end the opposite the chairs has a French door that goes out onto our deck. I always thought that I would work out the issues shortly after moving in but life and career just got in the way. I am hoping to sell my business in a few years and want to make it a restful spot to relax in when I am finally able to spend more time enjoying it. Esmaili Rugs and Antiques, Inc. ingrid_vc so. CA zone 9 I like the light colored one best I think... and I definitely want a modern pattern. I found a local retailer who can do custom size rugs (even custom variations of rug patterns in store with colors we match / pick out). I checked this one out. Was thinking I could even change the black to blue? But I kind of like the black for contrast. Or is that too many colors? Or should I go for more COLOR? I need COLOR IN MY LIFE! But, I could do that with pillows, art, and accessories..... ? I am planning on doing automatic shades, not drapes, in this room.. prob neutral so won't add much color. Also, don't mind the outdoor furniture that's all bunched up against the window... and I just put the orange pillows on the sofa to try and get some color going for reference. You all are so much help!

Before I got a rug I would work with the furniture layout so chairs and sofa are set up to enable people to have a conversation (the chairs face off into the window and the other faces the TV) Can you shift the TV a bit so you can have a least one chair floating and facing the couch? It will be hard to make the room feel inviting if it is not set up for natural socializing - (FWIW some small side tables with lamps or floor lamps would also go a long way in making the room inviting as overhead lighting can feel pretty harsh) - I think the rug will be easier once the layout is improved
