This is a long shot - how can I get Kava cuttings?
Comments (9)I too have been searching for years for a live Piper Methysticum. In 1996/97, Gnostic Garden were selling them. Firstly, there is no law against the live plant. The kava ban was purely for internal consumption - products design to be ingested, such as dried root, kava extracts etc. Essentially, kava extracts could be sold for cosmetic purposes and stated that they are not for internal consumption. Live plants would have absolutely no restriction. However, there is a law in Hawaii that prohibits any live kava plant being exported. Fiji seem to be pretty protective of their living heritage too. I have made enquiries to several US based nurseries for them the get a phytosanitary certifcate and send a live plant. Unfortunately there was no uptake for this. Today, I have found this place: http://www.ktbotanicals.com/piper-methysticum-kava-kava-live-plant-p-12697.html They say they'll send out plants anywhere, but if it gets stopped at customs, then that's that! I too have thought of a holiday in Fiji and smuggling some live plants back, but that's an expensive and risky pursuit. I'm happy to pay money for the phytosanitary certificate to get one of these ultra-rare Europe-based plants... They do have some live plants in Kew Garden you could always try and lift. And what's all the fuss about zones? Surely this would be a house plant and tended to in a very specific way? Afterall, after going through all the trouble getting one, you wouldn't want it to die?! Just make sure the thing's well insulated before it makes its journey in the summer months - it'll probably be put in the hold of an aircraft which can get pretty cool... Here is a link that might be useful: Piper methysticum...See MoreCan I see more long shots of your gardens?
Comments (8)Hey Chinchette, see that was fun huh? My son lived in Clearwater and he and his wife attended Clearwater Christian College.I loved going across the state to visit him . We rode bicycles to Safety Harbor, garage saled and I loved that Christmas STORE and Paradise diner!! Please don't be afraid to garden in the shade. The lettuce seem to really do fine in it as well as radish and onion. I have sweet potato vine a couple roses, and other things that seem to be be thriving under the shade of a a tree. In fact my cuttings I start are especially happy in the shade but be sure to add all kinds of goodies to the soil or no amount of sunshine will help! Ill post a few of my albums and LONG shots too. Comments (2)If you absolutely must have a grind-and-brew combo, the Capresso at least has a burr grinder rather than a blade-style bean chopper. And Capresso is also highly rated for having higher (i.e. better) water temperature relative to many other brands. On the downside, the built-in grinder is adequate but not great, though it's probably comparable in quality to your Cuisinart grinder. A better quality burr grinder, such as a Capresso Infinity or a Baratza Maestro, would improve your coffee, but you won't find find a grinder of that quality in any grind-and-brew combo....See MoreLong shot - can anyone identify these coniferous trees?
Comments (4)Cedar-of-Lebanon can be silvery also. In fact it often develops a grizzled appearance to the foliage with age, with there being silver on the top side of the sprays while the rest remains mostly green. And there are also all silver or gray variants, same as with Atlas cedar and Himalayan cedar....See Morejakkom
