Kohler Expanse tub
Comments (23)Somehow I came across this thread. Probably too late to respond to questions above, but I will anyway. I am still happy with the tub. I clean it with a spray on cleaner, nothing scratchy. I use an old net puff ball to clean it. The only down side is that it is so wide I cannot clean the opposite side without getting in the tub. I can't reach that far and scrub. Sometimes I clean the tub before or after showering. I just love the extra showering space. For baths, it uses A LOT of water. It pretty much empties my hot water heater to fill it. I have a standard size water heater....See Morekohler expanse curved apron tub vs kohler bellwether tub
Comments (2)Don't know about the bellwether, but I'm impressed with the Expanse, which helps take the constricted feel from a usual 5' inset tub... it really opens up space for a roomier soaking-tub experience whilst retaining the existing 5' x 32" enclave, expanding to a 38" width only at the center. It's also nice and deep. Good tub....See MoreKohler Underscore vs. Archer tub?
Comments (52)We replaced an older Underscore overmount that was improperly being used for a tub/shower combo with a newer Underscore alcove tub, no apron K-1121-R-0. The 30” width is no problem, I would be more concerned about her height as far as ability to get out of the tub as its somewhat deep (great for soaking!). I am 6’ 260lbs and feel the tub is still roomy. We did have problems ordering the tub so I recommend ordering before you start construction. We got a left facing tub first, the second tub was cracked, the third one was fine. Ordered through Home Depot first and then Amazon, returns were all handled just fine. Photo is after tile but before the glass swinging splash panel was installed....See MoreKohler underscore drop-in tub: 60" or 66"
Comments (10)Regarding the width, is there a plumbing showroom where you could sit in an Underscore and the other one that was recommended above? A lot of times it's hard to find a showroom with the tubs you want to try out. Mine is 36" wide, but I just got into my Underscore, and I think the 32" would be pretty much just as comfortable; but I'm a small person. If your hubby is a bigger guy, he would probably appreciate the extra width. Looking at your drawing, it looks like you have 41.5" of width available for tub + decking. If you do minimal width decking you can fit a 36" if you want to. We have 1.5" of decking along that back wall, 6" at either end, and 6" on the front edge. That's plenty for me for putting soap and shampoo and such. In your case, you would need to shrink the front edge to 3.5" of decking along the front edge of the tub. So it would be a trade-off, more width inside the tub, or more width of decking to put stuff....See Morejeri
