You can stain with an oil based stain and then apply a waterborne polyurethane. This will give you the look you're after with much less VOC (volatile organic content) load, although most floor stains have a high VOC content by themselves. I have stained heart pine with Bona DriFast stain and then topcoated with Bona Traffic Satin and have gotten very attractive results. You can consider the Waterlox system, although if odor is your prime concern, then research thre pros and cons of using that. Hard wax oil, of which I have no experience using, may be another option for you.

Re: the roots growing out through the net pots - it doesn't always work that way :-) Many annual and perennial starts are propagated this way beginning as plugs and I can't count how many that have failed and when dug up or unplanted from a larger container, all the roots are still contained in that tight little net casing. No lateral movement or penetration "through the net pot" at all. Not removing it just saves time for the wholesale grower (and time is money). Leaving it in place is of no benefit to the plant and often a handicap.

Hey Fairy, it looks about the same as in the pic minus pulling off the yellowed little leaf, tho I'm not bothered by it anymore knowing it's healthy! I haven't tried what justin pointed to which is moving to a shadier area to reduce yellow variegation, you might try that I realized later when it was at Lowes it was actually on a bottom shelf beneath other plants, so not really getting that much light, getting more at my house I do also think a leaf shine was used on mine, I haven't since used one but I might sometime

I have this one since three years ago, and it was lovely until lately, as you can see in the image, its leaves started to get tend to the ground, I used to water it once a week, so I tried to water it twice instead, but it didn't get better, it's leaves started to get yellow, I tried to water it less, like once every 10 days or more, but that didn't work too, because its leaves started to get brown, what should I do? P.s. I live in a hot spot, and this summer most of my plants died, I don't know if the hot weather effect on them, but I didn't have any problems with them last summer!
