What is this thing - unknown

Does anyone know what this thing is? It has been in our storage area for many years. It is quite heavy and I cannot budge it. I believe its made of metal. Any help appreciated. The first pic is a back view and the next two are inside views It is up against a wall so I cannot post the front. Thank you for your help.

Its really hard to tell anything since I can not see all of it nor figure out how it might work. It could be the crushing rollers for a sorghum or sugar cane mill, however, I would expect those to fit closer together. The rollers in such mills crush and squeeze the juice out of the plant stalks.

Micro, not sure if you completely got Rosemarie's humor--you stick 'em in the sun and tell 'em to thrive if they know what's best for 'em. To sink/live or swim/end in tears. Something I myself can't bear to do, but then again, I usually don't care for stress colors. I've seen pics for both Gasteria that kind of fit the bill, Rosemarie, but more G. pillansii v. ernestii-ruschii that look fitting. So, I'm inclined to agree there. Thank you! And if it's A. pseudotabuliforme in my grasp, I'm one lucky girl.

its fall ... the leaves will fall off.. along with whatever is attacking the leaves... nothing to do there ... but clean them up afterwards ... EVERYTHING looks like this in fall ... these would be great plants for you to learn about pruning ... there is some historically bad pruning ... maybe for the fence install ... the further one.. you could probably cut to about 3 inches.. and with no insult to the root mass it will be 4 feet tall again by next summer ... and then in the next few years ... having either succeeded or failed.. then you can get rid of them ... or not ... they are what we call.. a short lived tree ... in tree years.. that mean about 20 years max.. if you are lucky.. and the garden gods favor it ... getting rid of it.. is not that big a deal ... see you in the shrub or tree forum.. if you are interested in gardening.. and learning to prune... ken ps: the link shows.. what well pruned specimens should look like ... in a variety of forms .... I'm liking the idea of the horsetail reed grass in the third to last picture you provided or the grass in the last photo. 'Cascading hair' would look interesting too, so I'm toying with the idea of a double effect: adding another planter behind the fabric planter and filling with a trailer or two, such as sweet potato vines.
