Impressed with Julia Child so far
Comments (6)I sure hope that my Julia child roses start to look like that in three months. I planted mine a month ago and they are leafing out real well but are still small with no blooms....See MoreGood Companion for Julia Child
Comments (20)Marc, Thanks for the info on Bernstein-Rose and Tantau, one of my favorite rose hybridizers. Have you grown Augusta Luise? I LOVE that rose--so unusual. Hoov, My Ascots are on multiflora which is sort of a gamble around here with the alkaline soil. I have quite a few Kordes and Tantau roses on multiflora and many of them are almost too vigorous. A few have unwieldy growth habits I don't like (Sisters Fairy Tale), and two are slow, almost nongrowers and bloomers in constant danger of being removed. I don't know what to think about the multiflora rootstock. I would prefer Dr Huey, but often can't obtain the roses I want grafted onto Dr H. Diane...See MorePruning 'Julia Child' Rose
Comments (19)Phew! thanks to all the great input and the video - I felt more equipped to go for it and I got all but one rose all done. And I'm happy with them. I cut back the Julia, just a little more. Took off a few more thin canes and side canes. Took some branching ends off to a straight line, but basically left it about the same height, maybe a few inches shorter. I went back and looked at Beverly, which had good growth on it but some of the canes I had left were thin, so I took those back and shortened what was left a little. PJPaul really was awful and I had to cut most of it down to the ground and left about 3 stronger canes about 6 inches high. Savannah - had some strong growth on some canes, so I cut those by half and anything that didn't look right I took back to the ground. So, we'll see. I'm trying to find no spray roses. Julia Child has been great for me for years so these three are my next experiment to see how they work out....See MoreWe have only two varieties of roses ie JOHN CABOT and JULIA CHILDS
Comments (8)@erasmus_gw I am impressed by your attention to detail but the cat you see is 'only' plaster (with our real ones always indoors). The fragrance is nothing to right home about and in the past it was reasonably blackspot proof but this has not been the case in the past few years....See MoreKes Z 7a E Tn
