Be aware that Crypton fabrics have an impermeable coating on the back that can make it difficult for the cushion to "breathe." Sitting on a Crypton cushion can feel different from sitting on standard foam cushions. You sink down slowly and then the cushions "firm up." Although most homeowners do not have a problem getting used to this, some people do find it uncomfortable. Many people do not like the typical feel of the standard microfiber suedes and velvets, but there are other variations with other textures if you look around. In addition there are microdenier fabrics. These have fibers that are even smaller than the microfiber fabrics. They share the same durability and easy cleanability of the microfibers but have completely different textures, including the feel of a brushed cotton. An example of Microdeniers that feel like brushed cottons would be the Geo and Echo fabrics made by Dorel. They are also considerably less expensive than Crypton or Sunbrella fabrics.

I purchased a lovely custom fabric hickory chair sofa last year for about $1650. The quality construction and spring down cushions are very pleasing. After receiving quotes from our local higher end stores above $2600, I order the sofa direct from Stevens Furniture in Lenior, NC. Their reps were knowledgable, courteous, and promptly answered questions, sent samples, etc. The only drawback was the long wait time for a custom sofa, about 10-12 weeks.

Omigosh @jhouse I didn't see your comment 2 years ago and just got notice of this thread being revived and saw it. I am completely in love with my Crypton. No pills, spills and stains (tho I am careful) are easy to remove with a damp cloth and some dish soap. I wrote about what I bought in the previous comment, but I guess I didn't link to the actual fabric. I'm sure it's too late for you but maybe someone else can use the info B5605 Parchment the herringbone is very small and barely noticeable as a pattern. https://www.greenhousefabrics.com/fabrics/category/crypton_fabrics I think the pilling problem might be caused by the blend of the fibers. This is mostly rayon, which is very soft to touch and doesn't pill. I can imagine if you selected a blend with mostly poly or acrylic, pilling could be a problem. It also has a 63,000 double rub durability, which also might affect the pilling, not sure. It's also USA made and is water cleanable. I imagine if you got one that is NOT water cleanable and used water on it, that could affect it also. This fabric has no pills at all, even when I've rubbed it removing a stain. Even that doesn't affect the appearance of the fabric.

Well for 8 K I can get a Century which is the most comfy. For 4k I can get the crate and Barrel Axis or the Havertys Destination. I am trying to decide how long I want to keep it. Since I have 3 kids and a dog I'm not sure any fabric will look good after 5 yrs. The bassett custom line is comfy and appealing but they won't spray it with stain protector which has worked wonders for us the in past. Also they are quite pricy and if you spray your own furniture it voids the warranty.
