can interior window frames and casing/trim be 2 different colors?

I'm going crazy, I am getting 2 new picture windows vinyl, they will be replacing old very old wood windows. The new vinyl windows will be white, but the window sill and trim around window are wood grain color will this look bad not painting the wood trim and sill? I might add, I have a smaller window much smaller that I did have them 12 years ago put something on the interior window to match the woodwork, that is not a options for the picture window $. I can't put any pictures they have not been installed. Thanks for everybodies help.

I to would want the trim around the windows to match the the trim around doors and base.

Paint the vinyl the color of your wood trim. This is a low price fix. A more expensive choice would be Marvin fiberglass Elevate with interior wood trim. You would stain and finish that. Here. . Now I'm going to suggest something a good carpenter might do. Because your windows aren't opening and are picture the glass could be replaced with insulated units and butyl. This would match your other windows and cost less than vinyl. There are glass companies capable of supplying this. Not window companies. Windows aren't something magic.

Thanks for your reply. We live in Southern California and heat loss is not a big concern (normally). In fact, the opposite would be the case. I'd still be interested in re-woodworking the openings and even replacing the aluminum frame windows. I'm pretty handy but I'm not a contractor and am hesitant to replace a window frame solo. At one point I had measured one of our window openings and had a vinyl dual paned frame written up, but got cold feet when it came time to special order it. Anyway, please tell me what you think and thanks for your help.

Johnmari, Thank you for sharing about the many variations on white. Now I'm a little worried. We really don't have $ to go for custom treatments. If I go with the white, maybe I should order, try one, and then understand I may have to return? Yes. Absolutely. That was JM's point and what I assumed (and shouldn't have) you already knew. You need to have a plan to check the color before you commit. Or, as Annz said, there are many other resources out there at about the same price point as JCP where you can obtain samples before you buy. My Lowe's for instance has a nice supply of take home color samples for blinds and plantation shutters. You mention a mix of mission and contemporary - again, either would work. Someone made the point the wood tones do not reflect as much light into the space -- that is accurate. If you have abundant natural light, might not be such a concern. But if you're having trouble deciding between the two, that factor is something to consider. Exterior - Again, either can work. It's a matter of your deciding which choice, white or wood, is going to fit best with the design and look you're marching towards interior as well as exterior. Maybe make a spreadsheet and list the pros and cons of each color choice to help you see which one 'fits' best at least on paper.

Thanks all! Really wish I remember the paint. I did examine it once and it wasn’t any special off brand kind. It was black paint that was made for exterior applications. They didn’t prime, they had to do several coats and were really exceptional painters though, the kind that don’t use tape and they freehanded everything. It was pretty incredible. Like I said, after a year, some wear showed where leaves or debris had hit the paint and chipped a bit but quick touch ups were easy for me to tackle.

My home is over 90 years old and we just had replacement windows put in the 3 remaining original windows that are in the bedrooms. Not only were the replacement windows less costly, there was really no reason to replace our interior trims because they are still in good shape. My old windows looked very similar to yours. I don't notice any limited views from these windows, as they are so clean and beautiful and function perfectly. I also just have divided on the top and no division on the bottom. I think it's more updated than the grids both top and bottom. Just my opinion...

Thanks Dan, wasn't aware I could paint white vinyl and paint it. will it just be the color of the trim or will it have some wood grainish look? I appreciate what you have told me.

Do not paint the vinyl window!! That’s bad advice, if you want your window to match the trim get a wood window and stain it or get a vinyl window with a similated wood grain finish from the factory or live with factory color.

Paint doesn't want to stick to vinyl framing. Proper prep and the right primer and paint coats would have to be researched.

Gel stain like those from General Finishes are what we used for the interiors of Marvin Infinity fiberglass windows for a wood color. The interiors are fiberglass. General Finish topcoat was used over the gel stain. No problems. But fiberglass doesn't expand and contract as much as vinyl.

Vinyl windows wouldn't be my first choice for your situation.
