Thanks Ida Claire! Yes I am excited for the rugs! I love vintage and antique pieces. So much history and character. I think my long hall will be so much homier with some runners. And I would love to do a gallery wall of old oil paintings but my husband vetoed that so I’m just taking the rugs as a win (he doesn’t love the charm of the old as much as i do).

Can I ask a question since y’all seem to know a lot about Oriental rugs? I have a (supposedly) new 100 percent wool pile hand knotted rug from Pakistan. It smells a little bit like hay or something. It appears to be a natural smell- not like Olefin or chemicals, etc. I also put our Volatile Organic Chemical reader in there and it didn’t register any chemicals (it has picked up things in the past from synthetic textiles).

Will this smell ever go away or is it just the smell of the rug? It’s not returnable and I was wearing a mask when I bought it so I didn‘t notice it in the store...thanks Covid.

It’s really hard to say, since it could be from such a variety of things. I‘ve had rugs with a smell like you describe, and it did eventually go away. I think it’s promising that it‘s a more organic, natural smell, rather than chemical. I have a PB rug (their rugs are notorious for chemical smells) and it took about 3 months to go away!

My guess is that yes, the odors will go away. :)

Also, how dare you ask about this rug without showing us! Come on!

Thanks Jinx! It almost smells like a goat? Or a sheep? Not a filthy one, a clean-ish one 😂. It‘s not aggravating my asthma like chemicals often do. But theres really not way to know what’s on a lot of these products.

Yes I am very particular about the chemicals on my textiles and I’ve heard about those PB rugs. I have one rug from PB that’s hand tufted wool but green gold certified (or a similar designation- can’t remember) and thankfully it doesn’t smell.

Thanks! I LOVE the red ones but Mr. L. None- you guessed it- doesn’t like red or orange. This one has a touch of red in the design at least :)
