Farm sink 'stick out' amount...
Comments (3)Hi, it's a 36" sink in a 36W x 24D cabinet, about 34" inside. inside front to back is about 18" also, in these pictures it is set at 1.5" in front of the cabinet frame (ignoring doors) So maybe it's not too different from yours if yours is almost 3" in front of the base cab. I figure I need 1/4" from the wall for my 25" butcher block to expand, so the counter top is 25-1/4" from the wall. The apron corners are currently at 25-1/2" from the wall now. Yes excited indeed. but I need to get this correct the first time. So far I didn't need to butcher the cabinet too much. There is a gallery of installed sink here most are flush with the counter front edge. So I am not sure if that's how it's "supposed" to look or what. Comments (2)I think it may be slightly wider than norm; I have the popular "bump-out" in the sink cabinet. It allows for more room behind the sink. Looks nice, but... My basement kitchen does not have the bump-out, and the set back is still 4". I don't see how it could be closer. On the bump-out cabinet, it's 5"...just measured. So I suppose there is play room, but how close can an undermount be to the front of the sink cabinet? I think the granite fabricator ultimately decides....See MoreVery discouraged about sink options: Shaw's farm sink a mistake?
Comments (31)I have had my fireclay sink with a garbage disposal for more than a year. I have 3 teenage sons who are NOT gentle and I use the sink and disposal multiple times a day. After reading some negatives about fireclay, I have put on bright lights and readers to see if there are any hairline cracks, scratches etc. - and after 15 months - NOTHING. The sink still looks brand new. My contractor was careful not to over tighten the disposal - and I use sponges designed not to scratch and softscrub when needed - but the fireclay surface is so smooth and easy to wipe clean. I chose the Alfi Shortwall because I had limited space, wanted a double sink - but also didn't want pan handles sticking out. It is an ideal solution. At the time I purchased the sink, they did not make custom grids, but after reading some negatives about fireclay, I bought cheap rubbermaid grids from Amazon.com. They have been awesome and have provided me with a lot of peace of mind. Bluebath now carries custom grids for my sink, but I really don't see the need. The rubbermaid grids are hinged for easy access to the drain/disposal - and after more than a year, they still look great. I pop them in the DW occasionally to sanitize them. I absolutely love my fireclay sink with disposal and I think you will love yours too. Comments (36)I use a dish drainer at my camp. No dishwasher. It was given to me by my daughter because she didn't like the color. Usually there is just me and hubby and we don't generate many dishes either. I prefer my dishes to air dry. The drainer I have has a longer lip part that drains the water into the sink. I seen some like that on Amazon made by Farberware. I do have to elevate the back part of my drainer. I use a 2 1/2 inch high long little wire basket from the dollar tree. Works fine....See MoreJoseph Corlett, LLC
