I'd look for images of colonial revival houses from the first part of the 20th century (or I suppose the real thing) for inspiration. Your house is sort of a take on colonial, just with less symmetry. You'd have to do something like putting columns that match the things flanking the door out a few feet and tack on a roof...something like this, but take it down a few notches. We did. The inspector was actually very good we thought. Initially the home appeared to be pretty solid.There were several things, for lack of a better word, that were ‘hidden’- for instance we may have taken a closer look had we realized how uneven some of the floors were- amazing what can be hidden by carpet and a lot of ‘extra padding’. We didn’t realize the extent of the issue until carpet was out and some walls were down. We knew there was a problem with the porch and prior to closing had estimates done for repair. Originally the thought was that the stairs were failing because of settlement or improper footing- which may still be the case as well as what you see in the picture. The companies that originally quoted us for repair I think took a closer look and started hedging. This was a custom built home....builder no longer building- no surprise there!

What a charming location — except for the view of the neighbors. I would be more concerned with screening my view of them than how the house looked to other people. Take away the railings and add a pergola, Eztend a large garden well into the lawn. Plant tall flowers (I’d even grow some vegetables like sweet peas!) and layer in some trellies for flowering vines. Create a kind of room out there, one that is mainly open, both in the open ”walls” and a very airy pergola-roof. On the other side of the house do a window box, or a wide 3-tier planter under the window. Get shutters that are actually functional.
