This is not a french door but my 8' front door in a 9' tall foyer.

I would go 8’ to match your other doors.

Is this covered for the damage? I'd have the replacements custom made in 6'8". To explore this you can use Marvin for the double transom. See what parts they can produce of the triple. Them you'll have less to find custom.

@dan1888 no not covered. We sent in our deposit with a door contractor to Marvin only to get a call 3 weeks later Marvin cannot do the triple transom so we are stuck.

Its hard to gauge if something will 'look right' without seeing what other windows/doors/trim work /cabinets are near the existing doors. It should look fine if the trim work is integrated properly on the interior. Going bigger on doors and gaining more daylight is rarely a bad move in my opinion. If you're going taller, make sure your contractor installs a proper header at the right height instead of cutting into the existing one, especially going from 6'8" to 8'0". Best of luck.

If all the other doors are 6’8”, no, it won’t look right. Consistency is important. The issue here was the original decision to use 6’8“ doors in the first place. It has locked you into an expensive all or nothing change scenario. You’re also potentially introducing incompatible structural alterations, and exterior cladding changes, with moving the header up. It depends on the load that the wall carries. Get out your plans and have the structural evaluated first.

I think 8ft doors without grids would look great there with that view. Doesn't look like it needs anything done to the header. Just order to the current framed opening size. Depending on your budget and how you use that deck, a bifold door would work there nicely.
