So What Works For You To Hide Old Bulb Foliage?
Comments (10)The problem I always run into is that spent daffodil foliage tends to rot in our cool damp spring weather, and that damages the foliage of nearby perennials. This problem is especially bad in a mixed bed where there are hellebores, thread-leaf coreopsis, heuchera, and bergenia backed by viburnum and hydrangea and interspersed with old clumps of daffs. All the perennials get damaged by the heavy wet daffodil leaves, braided or not. Now I have several sections of decorative low fence behind the perennials, and I tuck the daffodil foliage into the panels to keep it off the perennials. It works, mostly, but is a bit of a pain, especially since the daffodil foliage takes a while to go limp enough to be guided in the right direction. The process has to be done over the course of a couple of weeks, and it goes on right when there are 40 million other, more interesting projects to do. Because of this, I no longer plant daffodils in perennial beds. I have them mixed with lesser bulbs in "the woods" where they can be allowed to go dormant with no care. There is almost nothing following them at ground level, just flowering shrubs and trees above "bare" mulched soil. It's a much easier way to use bulbs. There are lots of alliums, fritillaria, and other bulbs in the perennial beds, but they don't seem to have the same spent foliage problem for some reason....See MoreWindow treatment to hide an ugly view
Comments (35)Wow, to be honest, all I did was read the instructions. Yes, the paint is the Gallery Glass stuff. With the paint they had these black strips that were peel and stick. I used a razor to get nice neat cuts. I originally tried their black "leading" paint, but to be honest, it did not have the look. Unfortunatly the strips leave you to use mostly straight lines. Maybe a slight curve? The rest is just a matter of using the bottle the squeeze put the paint on the window, then use my finger to spread it out. I just altered with each "pane" from side to side and up and down. Cleaning the edges off when needed. I think i used a small brush to make sure the paint made it completely edge to edge, but then covered the brush marks with my finger. Probably the biggest thing to remember is it takes time to cure. (Since even normal latex paint on a basic wall supposedly cures for 3 weeks, imagine how long this takes.) I would tell you to put it up and not attempt to clean it other than dust or wipe with a damp rag for a couple of months. I have done a similar thing on one other area in the house. I made a pedestal for our master bath sink. The fun thing about it it has a color changing led night light inside....See MoreIdeas for hiding ugly wall ac unit
Comments (22)did you post the photo of the radiator cover/idea that you had? it did not post. yes, I agree with a toddler, that would not be a good idea at all. You could enclose it in a cabinet with flat front - like dry walled in. then put a photo/artwork on the flat part, if that makes sense. the art would be attached to the wall just like any other frame. if you did put a cabinet cover there like the white one above, you could paint the same color as the wall - it might not stand out as much? if you removed it, could you put a window there instead of trying to match the brick - just first thought that came to my mind. maybe it could be a cool shape window and not just a rectangle? not sure how much that would cost. or I wonder if you could cut a window to match the one next to it. again I have no idea how much it costs to add in a window. it might be too close to the corner for that though?...See MoreHide my Ugly wall
Comments (23)go to a Restore place or look on craigslist, offer up, etc. people are often trying to get rid of older doors. for a few hundrend you might luck out and find one w/glass in an mcm style. can you guys DIY at all? I'd prob paint that wall black and install some wood slats. 1x1 or 1x2 http://withinthegrove.com/diy-wood-slat-wall/ goes perfectly w/your style. Photoshopped it w/you and a door. I suggested this to another poster on here and she just completed it. she chose to do a portion of her wall. Here's the how-to on how to do it. (there are many others. you can search for other links) https://simplyalignedhome.com/affordable-slat-wall/ Gave you black door and a wood door. another how-to https://remingtonavenue.com and to complete the look, wall mount your tv and find a vintage-mcm dresser or cabinet to use as a console. (you can find these online, flea marts, wherever. I used to refinish these) similar design. think about getting a rug to go under your furniture. maybe a leather pouf. my next comment will be how to cover the ceiling on the cheap....See MoreRedRyder
