Need help with planting depth/root flare

Hey all, just planting some new apple tree's, but I'm a novice gardener and I dont know if I did it right. I know I'm supposed to leave the root flare/collar exposed, but I don't know how far down that might be. Here are some pics... you can see some roots poking out. Is this the root flare? Should I dig deeper, cover those with dirt, or leave it right where it is? Thanks! (Also, a second issue... I planted some Dogwoods also, and those took water no problem, but with these apple trees the water pools up very quickly... are they just less in need of water?)
