Where do you all buy pictures?
Comments (18)Also try Overstock.com, we just bought some oil paintings from there and they look great. They might be a little spendy depending on your budget, but they are cheaper than a "real" oil painting that you would buy from an artist. They are basically printed on canvas and then someone paints over the top of it with oil paint so that it looks real. Other things I love are prints of watercolors of places I've traveled, they are cheap and fit into store-bought frames. I also plan to frame a set of 3 postcards that are prints of old-time flamenco posters (advertisements for the April fair in Spain). I have also had my own photograph blown up and put on a poster like Jeane suggested. I used a PhotoShop action called Hayes Island Variant to give it a painted look and also applied a canvas texture. The poster was $20 and fit into a store-bought frame. Our Aaron Brothers frame store has a buy one-get one for a penny sale a couple times a year....See MoreDo you clean up before taking pictures of your home?
Comments (27)Your house looks very, very tidy Ttodd, and beautiful, of course! A toy here & there adds charm, imo.You work outside the home, have little ones, pets, & are very busy... you're doing a really great job! Be proud of yourself. Your little sweetie drawing on the floor (well hopefully not ON the floor!) is adorable, btw! Look at that gorgeous head of curls! Wouldn't need to do much if anything before taking a pic as I have zero tolerance for clutter! I'm trying to be like Ttodd! I work hard & consistently to have a place for everything & to keep everything in its place. My keys don't even touch the kitchen countertop...they have their own space in a drawer that they go into pronto! My sunglasses may sit out for a few minutes after I walk in. No mail sits out for long. Nothing. I just can't stand it. I'm home full-time so I clean a fair amount too. My kitty forces me to...she's a mess! Guess I'm afraid if I don't stay on top of things I'll have gigantic, irretrievable chaos on my hands, so I just nip things in the bud asap. Wouldn't want my kitchen photographed while I'm cooking though! Yick. That can get pretty messy. You wouldn't be able to see the forest for the trees! People "cooking" in magazine shoots & on TV never produce this kind of disorder! I remember seeing a photo ages ago of Suzanne Somers, blonde hair bouncing in a pony tail, licking something frothy off of a mixer beater, getting just a bit of the fluffy whip on the tip of her nose. So cute, so Suzanne. No pictures like that could happen while I'm cooking! Every night of course, I spend at least a half hour cleaning the kitchen after dinner, like most Americans. When are they going to come up with self-cleaning kitchens?...See MoreDo your pictures frames match?
Comments (16)I think the key to hanging a lot of photographs of people without the clutter effect is four-fold...any or all of these things can help. The first helpful thing is to put each picture in a frame much larger than the photo with a lot of white mat around it. The second is to copy all the color photos to black and white. The third is to make the group make sense either by using the same simple gallery frame type for all; or by painting all the differing styles of frame the same black or taupe or cream, or three shades of gray or taupe or tan; or by carefully matching each frame style with its photo, and then balancing the group so that each type is spread equally through the group. And the fourth is to lay out the group so that the outside edges of all the bordering frames create a box that's even along the top and bottom and sides of the composition. Then there is the now-for-something-completely-different idea, and my favorite of all...which is to take your three or four or six best-looking favorites (or the best one of each person in your family), blow them up big in black and white, put them in very wide white or cream mats and big simple frames, arrange them like a museum wall down a hall, and put everything else into a beautiful leather-bound photo album on a table....See MoreIf your kitchen is small, or open, where do you put your freezer?
Comments (36)I think it's 6-1/2 or 7 x 10 including the attic stairs, so it's not teeny tiny, but not huge, either. There are lots of houses in this area from this era with this kitchen but they did a far better job of making it feel spacious and useful than the others. Here's a flip with the same basic kitchen: And yeah, I've been looking at another house where I could double the number of base cabinets by going down to a 24" range, all the way from one cabinet to two, whoohoo! I've lived with smaller kitchens than this, but I think they did a super job of making a small kitchen live large....See Moremaddielee
