Do dark pebble sheen colors make the water hotter
Comments (2)I've been told that the darker finishes will add about 5 degrees to the water temperature. Obviously this depends on how much sun your pool gets. This is from the Wet Edge website adressing a FAQ about darker pebble finishes in pools: "If the pH and the alkalinity in your pool water are allowed to increase over the recommended levels a white filmy substance will appear on the pool surface. This build up is sometimes referred to as scale and will cause the pool surface to be rough and blotchy. Dirt can even get trapped under the scale build up if it is not removed right away. Scale build up can happen on any pool finish, but it is more noticeable on a colored surface because it is a white against a dark surface and therefore it is easier to see. Cements inherent characteristics can also be more prevalent on colored surfaces. Colored pool surfaces if properly maintained will look beautiful" Here is a link that might be useful: Wet Edge FAQ...See MorePaint too liven up dark room
Comments (2)Another vote here for trying the different light bulbs in the lamps. I do love lamplight -- and really hate overhead lighting. Also switch to fresh white or creamy white lampshades too. Artworks can REALLY help to bring color and life to any space or room. Perhaps adding a larger warm-color art or print to your room might be nice? Or perhaps add warmth with an area rug? Or adding texture can help too -- perhaps some dark woven or wicker baskets? Or books on bookshelves? Slate blue sounds realy nice -- but MIGHT (depends on your room and its decor) bring a colder feel to the room. Do add some warmer color with cushions (maybe a darker red or even darker pumpkin orange? or saffron or gold? toned cushions?) Perhaps if you went for a "warmer" tone of paint with your sage curtains? Pale gold (try Laura Ashley's Gold #2 or #3) Just some thoughts -- hope you don't mind! :) Jan...See MoreHow do you feel about cream upper cabinets and dark wood lower cabinet
Comments (25)We have a small galley kitchen. Eleven years ago we installed quartersawn oak cabinets, the lowers stained chestnut and the uppers stained sand - an off white. I still love it and left the cabinet scheme when we had to refresh some elements about four years ago. I agree that you should use ubatuba on both perimeter and island. At first I wondered if your backsplash tile was too muddy and 'fancy' for lack of a better word but with your ubatuba, I liked it better the longer I looked at the combination. You get so many opinions - including mine! Have you talked to a tiler about the backsplash installation - they'll require a skilled installer I would think....See MorePlease help, room feels dark and unfinished.
Comments (5)My recommendations would be to look for lighter color counter stools without the back, so the space feels more open. Also, I would recommend adding a mirror to the wall behind the counter chairs. The mirror will bring more light into the kitchen and you can really play with it here, think one fun round mirror on medium to large scale. And you can balance the wall out with stylish wall sconces on each side of the mirror as well. Also, you can add a large art above the fireplace that will set the mood in the area. As far as a rug/ runner goes, if you do have kids and you cook a lot, I would not recommend adding a runner. If you don't, then try to experiment with your style/colors, and see what you like. The runner will add some interest to your kitchen, just chose an easy care rug that can be cleaned and use a non slip pad under it. Hope this helps, good luck!...See MoreRelated Professionals
