Why did my Sago grow leaves like this...?
Comments (7)As well intentioned as stores may be, they continue to mislabel Cycas revoluta, aka Sago Palm, as a houseplant. It needs outdoor sun, or similar, to grow correctly. A regular window is not enough light no matter how bright it may seem. Being indoors also leaves the plant prone to mealy bugs. New leaves will also be elongated until you can place the plant somewhere with real sun. What you can try is to keep it indoors, and then as soon as you see new leaves forming, put it outside and leave it there until the new leaves harden completely (3-6 weeks). Then you can bring it back inside. A healthy Sago will grow new leaves at least once a year. In poor conditions (low light, drought) leaves will form less often because the plant will wait until it has built up enough starch from photosynthesis to invest into new leaves. If you cut off all the leaves, you might be able to trick the plant into sending out new leaves but you have to supplement with a high Nitrogen fertilizer to pull it off successfully. x...See MoreWhy are my Citrons growing very narrow small leaves?

Comments (1)The original may have just corked on the bottom? or are you sure it was actually rotting - was it soft? The plant used for rootstock could be hylocereus - pitaya, dragonfruit; it looks like it with those aerial roots. You could let it grow as is on old base or detach and grow separately. These plants send out aerial roots that usually 'search' for more nutrients. You could actually cut them off. The plant grows quite large, usually better if on a trellis, and when mature & large enough it will bloom and may have fruit. For that, it needs longer period of good temps. Good drainage is important as with any succulents. Do not overwater....See MoreWhy is my Echeveria growing roots in place of dead leaves?
Comments (6)Many succulents will grow aerial roots, there are some suggestions they may indicate not-so-favorable conditions, but not alarming. Most of the aerial roots are 'wispy', thin and pinkish and many soon dry up. On some of the succulents,I see fewer more if t is humid - but can't say that is a rule. I usually don't bother with them at all, few times I snipped them off and nothing happened. Other succulents will grow very wiry roots, and many of them and they stay on the plant. Look at Adromischus cristatus for example for a 'beard'-like hairs :)...See MoreTeodora Alexandrova
