Move along, nothing to see here.
Comments (11)Aw you are all so sweet. It made me glow with happy blushes to have people to sincerely celebrate with. You put it so well, Debbie - any bloom outside of the tropics is a happy little occasion. I'm glad others have had the same problem with keeping bella moist. I think I might have to move the Alsobia next to it and water the two of them every other day. I'm so tired of that Alsobia looking so raggedy whenever it gets dried out. It develops all these vines that are dry for a few segments and then green later on toward the ends. Argh. I can't imagine trying to keep this one in Brazil - it does seem to me that it is much easier to keep happy in the winter than in the summer. Goodness... 40C... I think you just said the only thing that could possibly make me happy that our cold weather hasn't ended yet. Let me know if you guys ever crack the sp. Tanna Island code. Every time I see Quinn's I feel so jealous of that exuberant growth. It really is so elegant even without blooms....See MoreMoving along ... little by little
Comments (57)"Cement panels. I'm not sure what your brand is, but when they built the closet/tub bumpout, they used DUROC cement board and then sprayed stucco over it." moccasin - way back in Nov I didn't catch that you thought the skirting panels were cement board, they're real cement. dbf has his own cement company. he's done cement work since age 20 or so. usually it's a side line and he has someone else running it tho. but if he needs something done, he does it or as in this case has his boys help him. they've been raised working in cement too. I guess it's concrete now... he uses cement to make things. shades - I looked at that spud bar - and will look for something like it at W or HD when i go. thx for the inquiries on my eyeball... it's much better today compared to last week anyway. It still is blurry tho. Doc says it's gonna take some time to clear up completely. seeing out of it even blurry is better than seeing nothing with it! nancy - that wheel chair lift looks great - and that's a good price I think - not like I've priced them before tho! marti - I've been using a pliers. I pull straight up and they come out easy enough. it's a bit harder with the ones that have carpet padding tuft in them. then the padding tuft usually comes out first and I have to recatch the staple and get it on the 2nd pull. I didn't do much of anything today - but walk dogs (it seems anyway). I checked to see how many door stops I needed yet. I need 1 - and my sister has 1 left from her build a few yrs ago. and I found the air grate covers and matched them up to the holes. 3 are smaller - kit and 2 baths. those 3 need replaced- they're bent/twisted or have a broken lever. the others will need a good scrubbing. my sister took pics of the vinyl flooring samples i have and if/when she emails them to me I'll post here. I have to return the samples but wanted the pics of them before i do that. I started to take a few things around to the new place, then I realized the front door here is about (maybe) 15' from the back door of the new place and they almost line up to each other. so, I just started stacking things around/close to this door and tomorrow I'll un-barricade it (to keep girl in) from the outside and move the stuff to the mud/laundry room of the new place. There's a shelf in that room I'm going to stack most everything I have ready to move on over there. Then I'll get more ready to go and stack it around this door for the next 'move on over' event! the new place looks a ton better with it's new paint job - and door levers/locks. I need 3 more lever handles tho....See MoreMoving along to the next project (entertaining kitchen)
Comments (8)The biggest issue is the shape of the roofline. The side wall height won't be high enough to place tall cabinetry like a built in oven or a fridge there. Are you planning on a dormer to increase the ceiling height there to be able to do this? If not, you could always do two refrigerator drawers and under cabinet ovens, making the back wall cabinet run longer in order to be able to fit it all in. It would be better to shift it all down towards the corner with the radiator anyway. Right now, that's an awkward little spot between the radiator and cabinet and will be unused dead space. If you need to have the tall built in fridge an ovens, then the gable end by the radiator is the only wall this can go on as I assume that the entrance to the room is through the opposing wall. The radiator will need some type of counter over it, and probably a forced air fan to move the warmth around the room if it's air flow becomes restricted....See MoreMoving right along: Fab decor for the staircase wall?
Comments (28)Went to look at the prints last night. Very long story, but the young man selling them decided he'd rather hold on to them and do some more research, as he thought they might have more value than what he had advertised them at. It was a very long drive and he said he "felt bad" that we'd driven so far, so he allowed me to take one of the prints of my choice. My initial reaction was to be utterly pissed off, but for a number of reasons I found myself feeling very compassionate toward the kid instead. When I got home, I was able to deconstruct the backing on my frame sufficiently to see that the print is actually a page that has been pulled from a book. I assume the others are from the same book. The value is really in the custom framing, and some of the frames are a bit scratched (nothing that couldn't be covered with a wood scratch filler though), and although I left with only one of the prints I'd like to have the others. Maybe hang them in the hallway upstairs, gallery-style, or even in the library where the sepia tones would work well. I wouldn't hang them on the staircase wall after all....See MoreStephanie, 9b inland SoCal
