Exterior Paint Help

Hi All, we are adding an addition over our family room and adding a front porch. We need to pick paint colors soon. Attached is our existing house as well as a drawing of the addition. We won't have railings on the front porch, just columns.

Was thinking of doing a white house or light gray?! Also what color floor would you do on the porch?

Unfortunately the windows were replaced with inexpensive vinyl. What is missing is muntins. Are there any holes around the frame which would let you add some for this effect? Choosing one color, for trim and any siding, will mask the vinyl look, work with the stone and bring back to life some Craftsman feel. So, I'm with you on a camel paint color...and do it all in one color. This is B.M. Camel Hair. It is a CSP color 285. You could give it a try.

Two possibilities because you have four large visual areas: gray roof, blue siding, tan/white fence, green lawn. That's too choppy. So: --I like the blue as well. Paint the entirefence white. Add a bright colored door in yellow, red, or salmon Note the great landscaping that showcases this house. Trim your bushes down to windowsill level and start thinking about some landscaping plans to showcase your lovely blue house. --Paint house same tan to match fence so the focus is on the house, not on the fence.(Usually you get a fence to match the house not the other way around.)

is that copper over the bay window? love that. I'd try and polish that out a bit.

i hope you're doing a charcoal or dark gray roof.

as for the 'light gray' combos, there must be a thousand!

here are a few combos you could consider trying. try to bring in some contrast. you just don't want a blah boring gray. make the house interesting w/some contrast and textures.

this first one has grays, darker charcoals, black and some blues.

Maybe you'd like to do black and white on the house, and a gray porch.

or gray and white with blue porch.

or maybe blue gray siding and charcoal trim.

Leaning towards a white house, but don't want it to be bright white. Tested White Dove but looked too yellow on the house.

Has anyone had experience with BM Steam?

Per Beth’s comment on your bay window - from drawing it looks like that window is coming out & porch extends over entire front? You don’t say where you live but I always find pure white houses glare when a south or west exposure sun bounces off them. Seems like your house has enough detail to break up so no large expanses of siding. i like mid tone grays for porch floors - great at hiding dirt. Also like blue porch ceilings as lightens up porch & helps prevent bugs. I’m not sure about shutters on upper windows of main house but none on addition. But that’s a lot of shutters to add in addition to the dormer facades on main house.

was looking at these for porch floor. Also considering Steam or Swiss coffee for exterior or Smoke embers if i went the gray route. if i did White was thinking of a paler gray shutter

also on addition we are doing horizontal siding as i'm afraid that doing vertical will make that side appear even taller. it already is feeling tall, not sure how to detract from that.

Not related to you color question, but perhaps using the same size windows and shutters on the addition as the main house would help that tall feeling.

I did swiss coffee on my stucco and it's white. not creamy at all.

smoke embers is a nice shade. just get some samples and try them on the house.
