Spray bottle, plain water. When they bark, spritz them while saying NO!

I have no suggestion for you but got a chuckle out of your post. Thank God my dog doesn't bark alot...and she is considered a "yapper" bread (chihuahua)...but when she does bark it can be irritating but I just tolerate for the short period since she really doesn't bark that much. I hope you find a solution that helps. Was your female an excessive barker before her new companion arrived?

The increased barking is a pack mentality. One dog does not bark nearly as much as he/she will if there is another dog to bark with. Spray bottle may work with a sharp "NO" command. Eventually you might only need the voice command. Hopefully.

My neighbor has three dogs and two of them bark at other dogs when she is walking them. She bought a can of compressed air and sprays it near them when they bark. She says it’s working.:

Sure with two there is going to be more of a pack mentality, but you are supposed to be the leader of that pack. I’m not saying that you’re not trying to establish that status now, only that you may not have as of yet (in their view). The water bottle will certainly get their attention but only for a minute. It may be that they will each require some hands on training so you can gain that status with them.

With my dog, she’s really good at listening except when someone is on the property. Instead of yelling, I tap her side and separate her from the situation by telling her to go sit on her bed and wait which she does. Then I always invite her over to meet the person once he/she is in the door. It’s easier with one for sure, but once you’ve established yourself as the leader, it will get easier. You just need to be consistent with your expectations. If you need feedback on the training part, there are lots of people who can help with that as well.

Funny story about my dog is she never barks, except only in her sleep. We even had her checked over by the vet after a couple of months to make sure nothing was wrong. We got her little over 6 months ago and she is a Dachshund/King Charles 7-8 year old mix. She finally did bark once out loud about a month ago when the bread machine made a whirling noise.

Thanks, everyone, for the helpful feedback. It has been so long since I have had two dogs so it's a learning curve for me. They are both such sweet dogs. And as I said, we knew #2 had some problems. He was given back to the breeder at age 6!!! Never did get a clear understanding as to the issues.

Have you tried a bark collar? Works well for DD’s dog. I’ve had standard poodles for 20 years, plus a mini poodle. They are the best dogs! Thank you for rescuing this sweet boy, and best of luck

We had the same problem. We taped newspaper pages to the window so they could not see out, left the pages up for a couple of weeks, really helped break the habit. After that we would touch their body and redirect them speaking quietly, so we were not also barking :)
