Setina: Should I be worried?

A while ago we had huge winds and shortly thereafter I noticed a developing bud on Setina that looked thornier. I removed that lateral and decided to just remove the very large "mother" cane that had many laterals attached. However, I still wonder though about this newer recent growth that's only come about since I've treated it for severe midge. It's only its second year in the ground so it's still its "creep" year and this could just be a more mature growth habit. Judging from the following pictures, should I be worried? I'd rather remove it than endanger other roses, but I'd hate to jump the gun. Pics to follow once my phone cooperates.
