Help for curved rotunda in entry way

Hello, we have this curved space in our rotunda at the entrance to our house. It's quite large the cutout space is about 5' x 7.5'. Not sure how to decorate... artwork won't really work due to the curve of the space. Looking for some inspiration. thank you.

How deep is it? If not deep, maybe an interesting textile sculpture. something that could be bent to follow the lines of the wall.

It’s hard to tell if there’s room to set a thin sculpture there. Or hang a mobile-type art piece?

I would put the round table there, but not centered under the light... I think that would be awkward and your foyer doesn't really look large enough for it. I also think the curved staircase would be highlighted with a nice table near it's curve. I don't think I would put a bench... when I had a curved staircase similar to yours I wanted something high there. I originally put a table there, but didn't want anything decorative like a vase on the table top because of our dogs and cat and I didn't want to hang a lot of small things and the curved wall wouldn't allow for any larger pictures... I ended up putting a large/tall tree there.

Based on the way the walls are built, that entrance does not look like it was meant to house a gate. I would just stucco over the exposed part or add matching stone to redo your entrance. The only entrance I could easily find that was similar to yours does not have a gate. I am guessing that you could get a custom gate made, for $$$, but I personally don't think it would be worth it.

Why don’t you frame your driveway with an arrangement of very large flattish rocks/ boulders instead? Disattached bits of fence don’t make any logical sense — you’re not trying to keep anything in or out — and don’t create a welcoming mood. You will need to maintain them, even though they will probably make most people think what they are looking is the remaining parts of a fallen-down fence you haven’t finished clearing away. Most of all, I don’t think it will do anything other than get in the way of the unbelievably beautiful view of the mountain. If you lay in some flattish boulders you can grow creeping rock plants around them, some native flowers (weeds!) They don’t have to be fancy boulders and I don’t know how much it costs in your area to get someone to bring them in. Before you get the idea you will talk your friends into a going on a rock hunt and loading them into your cars, please consider you could wreck your backs and your cars. Get a professional company to bring you the big rocks if you like the idea. Sorry if it too expensive where you live, and if they are too expensive, pick some lovely native weeds to grow there in abundance. Don’t pick ones that burn easily if you are out west. But get something you can plant and basically just tidy up every so often. It will be very nice and friendly, and soften your driveway. Somewhere close to the tree on the left put a mailbox with big enough house humbers on it. That will be enough to be a warm welcome to the homestead.

Since you're replacing the roof anyway, instead of a separate house roof and a shed roof for the porch, create one roof slope in the front over a porch that is 6'-8' deep -- you'll want room for chairs and still have plenty of room to walk across the porch in front of the chairs. To the roof, you could add a couple of dormers centered over the windows on the main floor. That attic space by the dormers could give you upstairs space either as a sleeping loft or attic storage. Cabins and porches go together. Consider creating the new porch floor that is the entire width of the house and is located just below front entry door height. Then face the vertical wall around the porch with stone or brick. Goodness - I'm usually quite fond of niches, but whomever installed this one did you quite a disservice! It really doesn't appear to be deep enough for anything other than a textile, as has been suggested above. That said, the right textile (something large) could make a gorgeous statement here. Do you have anything of a fabric-art nature that you could audition here?

if you do some kind of fabric sculpture or textile, it could project a bit into the room, much like if you hung it on a flat wall. There are some amazing felt artists out there doing gorgeous stuff. Not sure where you live but I'm sure you could find one in your area or online (etsy maybe?) and purchase something or have something commissioned. Look how beautiful this is!

Get a tall, thin glass vase and put in some twiggy floral arrangement. Add a light at the top to highlight it.

Alternatively, get a contractor to re-frame it with several openings to make it more of a statement upon entry. It doesn't have to be curved. Something like these:

Curious - is this a new built home or an existing home you moved in to? Curious about what was there before. Personally I see a quilted work of art wall hanging. Either that or a custom metal hanging made to fit the curvature and have the contrasting color of niche show through it to highlight. Neither option will be inexpensive but if it’s your long time place to hang your hat, well worth the years of enjoyment you would have!

You could maybe build a custom shelf to protrude to make a better space where you could set a vase etc.

My office building has a huge round ground floor seating area with an enormous painting on the curved wall. The painting consists of a patchwork of canvases, unframed/unstretched, that follows the curve of the wall. I'm not sure how they are mounted (the wall is marble), but assuming your niche is drywall I think you could probably find a way to attach an unstretched canvas, tapestry, or textile art to the wall (staples? nails? You could sew the artwork to sturdy backing fabric for the actual fastenings, to protect the artwork).
