New Black double front door - hardware color??? Help!!

Hi, I just ordered a new exterior front door. It's a 3/4 glass with 6 lites and a single panel at the bottom and being painted Black. I was going to go with brushed nickel hardware but the newest hardware in the house (doorknobs upstairs) and kitchen cabinets are all ORB. My thought is to change all interior door hardware to match. The foyer has 2 small coat closets on either side of the front door. If those are changed to ORB like the rest of the interior doors, can the front door between them be brushed nickel? Or it should be ORB too? My husband doesn't love the idea of ORB on a black door because it lacks contrast. Thoughts??

Go with brushed nickel. Your door is kind of like a statement piece while also providing you security(the latter being the most important of course). A lot of times, people think they have to match hardware inside and out; not the case.

I agree with your hubby, ORB does not add significant contrast to the look of your door but hey, it is not like people can see it from the sidewalk or street.

Just want you to realize your front door knobs don't have to match your interior ones if you don't want to. Don't feel like you have spend a few hundred changing all of your interior doorknobs to match your exterior one. :D

Yup. Go with brushed nickel. Your front door isn't like any other door in your house so the hardware doesn't have to match. You're over thinking this. The black of your door will match the black hardware inside the house. It sounds quite nice!!

I ended up asking a color coach online (cost $20). She suggested using BM Audobon Russet HC-51 or Copper Mountain AC-12 for the door and New Chestnut AC-6 or Texas Leather AC-3 for the shutters. The door colors are pretty daring for me but I think I'm going to go ahead and try the Audobon Russet. The coach said either of the door colors would tie in with my stonework and make the entry stand out. We'll see! I'm still undecided on the shutters..leaning toward the Texas leather. houseofclouse - I do like black doors. The black with your red brick and white wood should look great!

Thanks everyone for your input. Brass can be a very bright brass or antiqued...I am not wild about bright brass, but hear it is coming back. Someone asked for a picture...see below... The grey door is just the primer..it will be black.

I love that door! That deep red brick is very powerful, saturated color, and it needs Trim and accents that can stand up to it without battling. British racing green, a deep blackish green or greenish black, or charcoal, ith a little bit of thin white lines (more experienced people will have advice as to exactly how to place this), would be beautiful. I would use something just a tad lighter for that floor. Given the fact that people are going to be walking on it and leaving scuffs and shoe prints, I'm afraid the darker colors would always look messy.

So you have an answer in Rocky Mountain. I understand the O.C. D. thing, but honestly an adult would have to hang around the front door all day, touching and theen perhaps licking those fingers to be remotely affected. Even children have to have fairly constant exposure or ingest lead dust, or chew at sills or moldings.......or toys containing lead. Virtually everything made on this planet, has a prop warning for California, and if everyone who ever grew up with lead in the house were compromised, I'd have to question the number of 99 year old folks living in luxury senior facilities...........some lucky residents still golfing or playing bridge. : ) Buy what makes you feel good.
