Ikea Pax wardrobe - which size to buy?
Comments (0)Hi, I would appreciate any advice! I am thinking about buying an Ikea Pax wardrobe. (I have just moved into a newly renovated house, in Belgium, where there are no built-in closets, and all our clothes are in boxes or hanging on racks.) My bedroom measures 314cm wide by 360cm long. The Pax would go on the 314cm wall opposite the bed. Should I get a 300cm-wide one so as to make maximum use of the space? Or would that be too massive, squat and overwhelming? I would order the 201cm height (not 236, which would barely fit under the ceiling). It would cover most of the lovely apple-green wall. (The wall behind the bed is also green, the side walls are white, but I was thinking that if some of the doors of the Pax were mirrored, it woudl reflect the green from the bed wall.) There would be abouta meter of space between the end of the bed and the wardrobe. I'm thinking normal hinged doors instead of sliding ones, which I've had trouble with before. Any opinions about how to organize the inside of the wardrobe? I had one in a rented house that included the trouser hangers and wire "drawers" and know I don't want those. I'm thinking just hanging bars, with one area for shirts, another for longer clothes like dresses, and solid drawers, and a shoe rack. Comments (2)What you store is totally personal. I have three IKEA Pax 36" wardrobes (in the white, raised panel design) and love them. I have 2 deep ones for my clothes (there's only one closet in the master bd, and it's 4' wide) and one shallow one for linens. Few halls will be able to take a deep cabinet. Ours is 6' wide, and because of the door layout, a 2' deep closet would be claustrophobic. We do not have many linens, but our shallow cabinet is FULL with just linens for our family of four, plus some dirty clothes space at the bottom. The nice thing about the depth, though, is that everything is very accessible. We keep our meds, tp, etc. in the bathroom. Triage everything BEFORE investing in more storage. How many towels do you really need? How many meds are old? How many are duplicates? Lots of people have Nyquil AND Mucinex AND Sudafed without realizing that there is only ONE effective OTC decongestant, ONE effective OTC expectorant, and ONE effective OTC cough suppressant. Have a small bottle of decongestant/expectorant for the day (cough suppressant optional), one expectorant only for night plus Afrin for night use in emergencies, and that's it. With a bottle of pain killers and a swig of the alcohol of your choice, and you can recreate whatever branded blend you desire with a lot less total space. The basic rule is to learn to check ingredients before buying and make sure you don't duplicate products....See MoreIkea Storage - One Reason I Chose Ikea
Comments (35)Odiegirl - It is a filler cut from the edge of a 24" 88 cover panel. They don't exactly have filler strips. The finished edge is against the cabinetry, and the cut edge will be caulked against the wall. westsider - I thought I wanted attached top and bottom. I wouldn't be able to get anything out if it was all attached. It would depend on where the cabinet is, and since mine is against a wall, I decided to do the door. Seemed too dark otherwise. I only made that decision after it was installed. Very flexible. gitanoel - i'm not sure i understand your question. the handles are the small and the next size up, lol. the small is like 6" from screw to screw. I'm glad so many have found the thread interesting and/or inspirational. I've enjoyed all the responses! Lisa...See More10' Reach-in Closet or Wardrobe like ikea PAX system?
Comments (23)I have had Pax closets for 10years. I don't have doors on them but I have taken than apart and rebuilt them several times as I did things in the closet. I would never use a normal closet versus the Ikea Pax. California Closet is very expensive and less flexible in my opinion. I would use one of the Italian systems from Minotti but those were about half the value of my house:-) My master closet is a galley with two 6foot long sections with 24" deep by 96" tall Pax systems. They hold a ton of stuff. There are similar sized systems in the other bedrooms. I have kids that spend the summers with me and they have never damaged these systems. The drawers pull out easily and I have added some updates like the valet rods and Hafele pull down closet rod. I love the pull out shelves for my shoes. I have a small number of shoes:-) The other update I was looking at is some interior lighting for the units using LED strips. I know you decision is made but there is some misinformation about the PAX system. There are a ton of door options and even inserts from non Ikea sources. At roughly $90 for the box, it really can't be beat for value. There are some size constraints but most closets can support the Pax units. Some Pax fronts that are super cool: SuperFronts From Remodelista Good luck!...See MoreNick
