CT get together a success!

Thank you to Roarah, mntrdredux, Ninasmom and Anniedeinaugh for trekking over to the Guilford Green for a picnic lunch today. It was great to see to all and to meet Ninasmom for the first time. We covered a lot of topics and weren’t shy with our opinions on current events.

Thanks again all—you enlivened my Covid summer.

Succession planting in the same bed mainly involves being practical about how much soil nutrition and fertility you are losing with each planting, then replacing it. I remove all the roots and organic debris, then add lots of finished compost and compost tea before germinating a new crop. I use seaweed emulsion for micronutrients and then read my plants' growth to see any signs that I've miscalculated. If you suspect you are carrying generations of diseases from crop to crop, that's a bigger discussion.

As usual, I had a great time. I always look forward to our swaps. I love talking to other "plant" people. Sadly, I was away for awhile buying shrubs for my new front landscaping project and couldn't talk to as many people as I wanted to. Thanks Ron for again making our swap so successful. It has really grown since we've been at Youngs. It's great to have new gardeners. I hope everyone enjoys the plants I brought because I know that I love the plants I get from everyone. My yard is full of them. I'm already thinking about what I can bring to our fall swap. Sue, I'm so glad you joined us; since you were recovering and had to drive a distance to get to Youngs. Hi Everyone Â thanks once again for making the swap a huge success. I had a great time and it was great seeing garden swap ÂveteransÂ as well as newcomers. We always have such a wonderfully diverse group of people. Being able to share ideas and have the opportunity for some Âgarden talkÂ just makes it a very special occasion to which I always look forward. Ron Â as always, a big thanks to you for organizing, setting/cleaning up and cooking/grilling. YoungÂs has been very gracious for allowing us to use their property for the swap. Virginia Â thanks for putting me in touch with your incredibly generous Mom! After she contacted me on Sunday afternoon, I immediately took a drive over to pick up the Brug ÂcuttingÂ. You can imagine my surprise when she pointed me to a 6Â Brug tree! I had to run home to switch cars to be able to get it home safely. I am so excited about it Â it is on my front deck so hopefully I will be able to enjoy its beauty for the next couple of weeks. Not only is it blooming now, it is filled with lots of buds. Gorgeous! Please thank your Mom again for me; she has a beautiful collection of Brug ÂcuttingsÂ. Please feel free to email me when you are in the area if you want to stop by. Sue Â thanks for posting the picture of the white Brug Â great shot, it looks beautiful. What a wonderful accent for the garden, especially with the backdrop of the house. Steve Silk should just use your pictures for his next article/book ;). Do you have it in a pot or did you plant it out in the garden? Do you give it special treatment during the summer months in terms of extra fertilizer? Hedy - I am including a picture of the Lemon balm and Euphorbia 'Chameleon' combo I mentioned to you at the swap. You gave me the Lemon balm probably a few years back' the Euphorbia was a volunteer self-seeder. I love the colors together; they appear early in the season and last for a long time. I'm glad to hear everyone had a good time,the weather was perfect,thank you all for coming it was a pleasure (as always) to host the swap again. I agree with the above mentioned suggestions of trying to get more new gardeners to our swaps,we just had way to many plants and to much food (like these are bad bad problems :-),and simply not enough people to stuff thier cars full of goodies! Hey I need some help! I need to figure out who Julia P. is becuase she won the raffle for the $50.00 gift cert. but she wasn't there when Brodie pulled the name out of the pot. she left a phone # but when I tried calling it (twice) I was told I had a wrong number. Could this possibly be Sarah's little Julia? if anyone has any insight I would appreciate it so I can get her the cert. Thanks,and happy gardening, ron

Thank, Jojo, for organizing. It was a picture perfect day to picnic on a charming New England town green. A delight to meet Roarah and NinasMom, and of course to see Jojo and Annie again!

It was a glorious day! Someone set the thermostat at perfection.

We all packed whatever we wanted, brought our own chairs, found a pretty place in the shade to sit at a distance and talked like crazy. We had the added advantage of watching children playing on the green which added to the delight. It was nice seeing everyone again and getting a chance to meet NinasMom.

I'll look forward to our next get together!

PS. Raspberries still available for picking @ Bishops jojoco, but they’re pricey. 1.5 qts/$20 or 2 baskets (3 qts) for $35.

Thanks jojo for setting it up and thanks to Ninasmom, mtn, and Annie for joining too. It was a delight to see you all in the real world. The weather, spot and company was the highlight of my month! This online group has enriched my life in both virtual and real ways. Thankyou GW friends for always being a welcoming and supportive place to visit!

How fun! Next time come a little closer to MA, please! I thought about trying to join you but it would have been about 2.5 hr drive each way.

Thanks Grace. My son’s gf returned home last night with as basketful. They are now stored in the freezer. Sue, we’ll definitely find a more central location next time. Maybe stonington or somewhere fun in RI.
