What if you had a lightweight sign and hung it with that blue sticky-putty stuff? I don't know what it's called but it's kind of like play-doh, and you can put little balls of it on the back of the sign and hang it that way. Now that I have answered the actual question, I'll say that I agree with funkyart that it is off-putting to encounter an order like that before you even knock on the door. If you must hang the sign, how about in a spot just inside the door? We are a "mostly shoes-free" house. My family removes shoes automatically, in the mudroom. Friends of ours and friends of our kids almost all remove their shoes automatically, too, either because they also do it in their own house, or because it's obvious that we all have removed our shoes. If KIDS don't remove their shoes, I ask them to do it before they get too far. If ADULTS don't, I say nothing. If we have adults over for a party, I never ask anyone to remove their shoes. I think if you have someone over for a social event, they have chosen an outfit that includes their shoes, and for a variety of reasons it wouldn't be right to ask them to remove them. I think when you have a party or just a few friends over, that's the risk you take -- your floors may get dirty, someone might spill a glass of wine, someone might dance with a lampshade on their head... ooops, that's a different forum. Now, back to my popcorn. I had to admit I peeked in here only because I knew there'd be some Opinions on this topic.

Here's mine. We wear our shoes inside. Our shoe spot is mainly to keep DD's shoes contained, and to give her a sense of discipline and order in where she keeps things since she is only 2 and obsessed wtih her various flip flops right now. That was the sole purpose for our shoe spot. Summertime, it's only DD and my flip flops...not my everyday shoes or tennis shoes. I keep all my shoes in my bedroom. I got mine at Meijer for about $20. The tag called it a "newspaper basket". Gayle

I think its brilliant and should work well. The linked rack would also kinda work with some caveats - which you probably already know. The door itself may not be structurally enough to hold cans. 12 soup cans may weight over 14 pounds. You might have to put a big piece of plywood on the back side of your cabinet door and then attach the rack (or shelf brackets) to the plywood. The shelves need to be narrower than the doors so that when you open the door, the shelf unit will miss the door, cabinet side or frame. I don't know the formulas to figure it out, so I'd probably use a block of scrap wood of the appropriate depth to figure it out with a cabinet door. You need to allow for clearance near the hinges. Some cabinet hinge parts may need to be clear of the rack. Be sure the rack fits what you want to store. Advertising photos are decepticons :) If you do use something that is not solid, think about putting a piece of clear plastic or metal on the cabinet door to protect the door from dings. I figured that likely it would be to hold something rather heavy. In this area, some of the cookie bags have long double-wired closures glued across the top that one can bend over the folded-over top of the bag to keep it closed, so the cookies fresher. When the bag is empty, I can rip off that rather stiff closure and hang it over the top of a, e.g. kitchen cupboard, door to hold some light things, (e.g. rubber bands, over which there some discussion here about storage methods, the other day). Doubt whether they'd hold a jacket ... even one for a cat, unless it were hugely thin - and that "hugely" is for thickness of the jacket, not the cat, please. ole joyful
