What you need is a router, not a router and modem (not that you can't use one, they just tend to be more expensive). What you are trying to create is an "access point" and you can buy a dedicated device called an access point but generally speaking they tend to be more expensive than just a plain router. Frankly almost any router will do, so if you happen to have one in the closet or have a friend or family member with an old one, use that. If you want to buy one, buy a cheap one. After that it's a matter of setting it up. Some routers will have the ability to function as an access point built into their firmware. If it does, that will save you a few minutes of set up time. Otherwise, it's just configuring the router, which is relatively easy to do. Once you get your new (or used) router, let us know make/model and someone can help you through the setup process. Heat and humidity is not good for any electronic device so you'll need to figure out a way to protect it.

It is where it is and isn't moving. This is the same dealer who did a system (single speed heat pump with electric strip backup) for one of my neighbor's rent houses (which didn't previously have a central system). He had a bunch of trouble, ranging from the thermostat (not this S30 model) set for the wrong system type (they didn't get it right after a couple return trips so he researched and corrected it himself) to a too-small heat strip NOT what the contract stated (they did that purposely because the wiring was also too small and they had to re-wire when he pinned them down to install the correct heat strip capacity). I warned dad about all that but he went with this dealer anyway, and is happy with the results (thus far). Remains to be seen if the thermostat configuration is or isn't fouled-up ... and I'm not going to mess with it myself.

I sang the praises of the Orbit Bhyve hose controller a few days ago and need to add a notice. These units can be purchased with and without a Wi-Fi hub. I purchased the unit without the hub. The box however states that there is an easy Wi-Fi Upgrade. Not true. I have called Orbit and cannot order one from them (da?) and I also called Home Depot at their recommendation. Evidently, Home Depot cannot order one either. My solution is to take the used unit I purchased back to the store where I bought it and get a refund. Perhaps, next year I will purchase the combo (Controller + Wi-Fi Hub). I have 5 Orbit battery operated mechanical controllers that I primarily used before I added the in-ground sprinkler system to my back yard and they worked flawlessly. I purchased a couple of the newer models as well and they too work well. One of the new ones did malfunction, but Orbit is replacing that unit. I like the idea of the Bhyve hose controller because (with a Wi-Fi hub) it allows me to spot sprinkle an area with the hose bib and control the watering schedule according to my needs using my smart phone, or computer, etc., from anywhere I have an internet signal. For me, this can be especially useful on hot summer days when an area is being attended to and I don't need an entire in-ground zone running to water the area; or maybe the in-ground zone doesn't hit the area just right. Anyway, I like the Orbit controllers, but thought I needed to update my previous post. Orbit should pay more attention to its box advertising; hence the need for this post.

Thanks. In the end I just replaced the light w/ a smart light w/ remote control. Here it is almost impossible to find pull chain lights :) not the most practical but it will do. Definitely better than a light that is 24/24 on.
