More costly to lay slate in brick pattern with small grout line?
Comments (4)because it takes more time to ensure the half-tile drop pattern every other row is in proper alignment. In initial layout for the control lines, to more grid lines, and/or periodic checking. To do it absolutely right, you would install 2 sets of grid lines one way. One that you set the initial pattern to, and the second to set the half-tile drop pattern to that designates the brick/running-bond pattern overall. Also it can be more time consuming to cut the same number of cuts, but in more dimensions/sizes, which means more frequent measuring and setting of the wet saw cut width guage or snap cutter width guage. the latter is less of an issue when net-fitting to finished baseboards becasue they are all independently measured, but more of an issue if rough fitting to a wall that is going to be covered with base where you could make one setting for a wall and adjust it 1/8" here and there as neeeded depending on the previous cut for the standard install. time is money. more time is more money....See MoreFinished Grout color does not match sample: arghhhh!
Comments (80)Same story. I picked out a dark grey I think it was Pearl Grey Maipei to go w Cle Tiles Slate plank floor tile. Grout looked awful - like 2-3 shades too dark when I wanted it to match. Thankfully my contractor is lovely, he said if it wasn't what I wanted he'd make it right. He filed out the grout by hand (tile edges are slightly chewed up, but he warned me) and regrouted w Custom Prism grout color Charcoal. I was much happier with the results. Now planning for my kitchen backsplash and this thread is making me reluctant to go with Maipei again, even tho on paper 77 Frost looks like it should be a close to perfect match to my Bedrosians Clara Matte Grey tile....See MoreLimestone tile discoloring when grout applied
Comments (1)Bayonne Creme Limestone tiles (polished) are to be used on my kitchen backsplash. I have made samples of limestone tiles to try different Mapei grout colors. I have sealed the limestone tiles with 511 impregnator water based sealer (non color enhancer). I have let the sealer dry over night. When I grout the samples the grout is staining the tile. I am wiping the excess grout off the tile right away before it dries. Please help. Is there better sealer that will prevent this? Comments (11)it's the perfect grout color. Don't even worry about changing it. make sure your guy knows how to do this grout properly. Grout small sections, and clean up quickly (within 10 mins or so) advise him to use very little water on the sponge. Normally you would spread your grout out in large sections while using the float to press it in the joints, and then go back and wipe up. sometimes as long as 30 mins. You can't do that w/this grout. (if he does large sections and waits to wipe like on normal grout, the grout leaves a filmy residue that takes hours to clean off!. Ask me how I know this. I advised my tile guy how to use it and he didn't listen to me. I spent 2 hours using another product to remove the grout residue from my marble tile. ) FlexColor CQ has a stain resistant property in the grout, so you shouldn't have too much of a hard time cleaning. I have it in my shower....See Moreglowens777
