Slant Front of Apron Sink?
Comments (4)There are still sinks being made with a slanted front. I think the slant (for me anyway) takes away the purpose of the apron which is to bring you closer to the basin. The slant would also mean it pushes you further away from the faucet so you would have to lean over a little more. If you're of an average height with average arm length maybe that's okay, but I'm short and have short arms. I just looked through my vintage kitchen sources and did not see many with a slanted front. If they did with those materials (mostly native to the NE) I'm going to guess they had hired help. Maybe if they did have a slant it was to fit more pieces of food to clean or soak (veggies and meat)....See MoreDouble basin apron front sink
Comments (2)Go biscuit or almond if you don't like white or stainless, but PLEASE don't go with the black Kohler, you'll regret it. I had one in a previous house. It was not the apron front style, but it was a tile-in double basin. It's made the same, I think it's enamel over cast iron. We were on city water which was very hard, the house also had a water softner. The house was one year old when we bought it, we were the 2nd owners. We lived there for 2 and a half years, so it was only 3 and a half years old when we moved. The bottom of the sink was discolored and badly scratched. It looked like a white and blue-ish film on the bottom that could not be removed. It was so bad, it became something we had to give a credit for when we sold the house. We didn't replace the entire sink because it was tiled in. It would have been very hard to remove without damaging the tile. Our move was fairly quick (job relocation), so we didn't have the time to deal with it. We never used abrasive cleaners or things that would scratch. We had a professional Kohler refinisher come out and tried to get him to re-do it. He refused, saying that the black would just do the same thing in a short amount of time. He said that the black was the worst color Kohler makes for scratching....See MoreKitchen sink double, single, apron front
Comments (20)There are pros & cons for each type of reveal (that's what it's called regarding counter overhanging the sink or not): . Positive Reveal -- where the sink shows/granite is cut slightly larger than sink Pros: Easier to clean b/c you can see the gunk and can easily wipe it off (it only gets nasty if you leave it there) You can use the ledge to put a cutting board over the sink (assuming a cutting board is available for the sink or you can find one to fit) Cons: Silicone (caulk?) might be visible, but if they use clear you won't see it when it dries . Negative Reveal -- where the granite overhangs the sink Pros: You cannot see the gunk buildup Easiest reveal for a fabricator b/c s/he does not need to be precise with the cutout since the stone will hide any mistakes following the contours of the sink consistently. Cons: You cannot see the gunk to clean it. Edge underneath is not polished so gunk is more likely to "stick" Dirty water/food can splash up & under where you cannot see to clean it. It's difficult to see underneath to check for gunk w/o leaning way over & into the sink. Dishes have been known to break b/c when you lift them out near the edge of the sink the dish hits the stone counter & can break (or, if the dish wins, the counter could chip...but I'm not sure how likely that is). . Flush Reveal -- where the granite & sink are the same Pros: Easier to clean b/c you can see the gunk along the edges No platform over or under for the gunk to collect Cons: Very difficult to do perfectly Silicone might be visible, but if they use clear you won't see it when it dries You will find proponents of all three types of reveals here...but in the end it's what works best for you....See MoreFarmhouse/apron front sink selection
Comments (12)I have the Kohler Whitehaven 7 in (short apron). It was placed in new cabinets. Kohler.com has info. Mine is the 60/40 split low divide double. I love, love, love it. We are treating very kindly, so far, so good. I did purchase the sink racks to protect it. I am one of the few people who like double bowls. It is the feature in the kitchen the people most rave about....See MoreKaytee
