Bklyn That is close to what I am growing in with crap referring to anything that rots in my compost pile. I do not have easy access to animal manure. I just got access to 30 gallons of Miracle gro potting soil that is 4 years old and it's insect killed hosta plants.

Howard, your miracle grow will give you much better results in a container than manure will.

but I've killed so many plants with miracle grow before

Miracle grow won't kill your plants unless you are over-fertilizing. It's not the best nutrient out there, but won't kill a plant if used correctly. Aren't your plants seedlings? They do not need much fertilizer right now. The clay soil will kill them, not the miracle grow.
