Rangecraft has a model called Canterbury that looks like a dead ringer. Their hoods are completely custom order so they don't have one on their website that looks exactly the same, but the hood itself is the same shape and the band on the bottom looks like identical to the one you can have added. It's a beauty!!

At first glimpse i thought cha-ching so moved on, but DH and our contractor both oohed and ahh'd over it so i thought i'd get the scoop. Our GC knows a metal guy and she says he's reasonable.. but ya, compared to a used Honda maybe! thanks guys! will letcha know what i decide - my BS range is my huge splurge, i may cut corners on the fancy hood.

I LOVE my blue star (48" with grill). Now, I had a delivery problem - they sent the wrong fuel type (propane vs nat gas). It took awhile to get it fixed (Trevor at Eurostove came right out to fix the stove top but didn't have the tools for the ovens). Their repair company in Boston was a joke and they finally had to go with another company to fix it. If you want more details on that fiasco email me) Besides that hiccup we all LOVE the Blue Star. I fried bacon and couldn't believe all the pieces were evenly cooked - no squishy ends. I think any star burner would give you even cooking. I love the 22K BTU burners since we do a lot of pasta and boiling water for other items. I haven't gotten enough courage to go full blast on stir fry cooking yet. The 22K burners can go down really low but if you want something even lower the simmer burner is wonderful. My kids love cooking on it too (10 and 13) plus my DH. I haven't used the ovens much since its summer. The grill is not really even in temperature spread but the repair man says all the grills on other brands operate similarly. I'm still getting use to it. I'm a bit disappointed about that but my DH is happy not to grill in 10 degree weather (and the outdoor BBQ takes so much longer and uses more gas when the weather is that cold). I love all the colors Blue Star come in - I got a red one. My kitchen was basically built around the range - it's the focal point in my kitchen. I also have a 1600 cfm prestige fan and exterior blower. It's quieter than my useless OTR. I love it too.

I love the DCS. I've had it for 8 years and only minor problems in the first year that were handled under warranty. The highs are powerful and the simmer is amazing. Dual stacked burners so you can simmer on every burner. I also find the sealed burners and SS top extremely easy to clean. The convection oven is great for baking, broiling and roasting. Frankly if I needed to replace it, I would either get another DCS or bite the bullet for the new Capital Culinarian. If you're not familiar with it, check out the appliance forum.
