Etsy has alot of meditation decor, prints etc.

I think the starting point is, what is minimally required for you to meditate? For example, do you sit on a tatami mat? Do you want a chair, and if so, do you want it to be comfortable, or does your meditation practice require sitting almost on the edge of a hard chair?

Are there specific objects that facilitate your meditation? For example, I meditate in a western religious tradition for which certain accoutrements are appropriate but not required - I don't use them, but if I were creating a dedicated meditation room, I might.

Designed meditation spaces that I've seen often try to suggest being in nature - not with murals or whatever, but with natural materials, wood with clear finishes, etc., but a wabi-sabi approach might work for you, too. As for colors, yellow is said to stimulate the mind (sometimes too much), while blue and green are considered calming.

If you're familiar with feng shui principles there's some weird chi (energy flow) going on in the room. Energy flows in the door and out the window, and there's a fairly dead area of the room in the window corner, including a weird cut out for the door and a mirrored closet. The mirror reflects light to the back of the room but only in the corner. I'd take the mirrors of the closet doors and replace them with a simpler outline.

I am not a “serious” meditator yet...but I might be one day. I definitely like it and would like to continue learning more abt it. Right now, I could use the room as a beginners space for meditation and/or for prayer, reading, solitude, etc and then maybe let it kinda evolve from there. I will sit with it for a little while and think more about the things you mentioned and then try to narrow it down.
As for feng shui principles, I am aware of them. I actually like the cut out by the door but realize it does form an arrow...so I’ll see what I can do about that. The room is on north corner of the house which is one of the reasons I chose a blue rug. The window in middle of wall is not directly across from the door. But even if it was, there really isn’t anything I can do about the door or the placement of the windows but I agree the closet must go. I’ll look into some potential cures. Thx :)

I have a small reading room in my house. Basics are comfy chair, good warm lighting and a book case and side table. If it were me and I was thinking about getting a chair for in there I might look into one of those chairs that folds out into a guest twin bed, just in case . . . I'd then put the chair in the best lit corner of the room kitty corner from the doorway, and then the meditation area on the kitty corner from the closet corner, out of the door's energy flow. Some plants, maybe a little TV screen to do my yoga workout videos, a small set of speakers and whatever mat I use for the meditation. The only meditation I have done is bio-feedback tapes for migraines and I ALWAYS fell asleep with those, so my meditation room would include a pillow and blanket . . . . I'd also look carefully at getting some soothing yellow light in there, and not florescent . . . some candles or pot pourri.

I am a huge devote of the Buddhist goddess Guinyan (goddess of compassion) because my mother visited her shrine in Tokyo many years ago and brought back a few icons from her. Her icon is the lotus flower, so if it was me, I would do a kind of lotus/watery theme in there. But if your meditation is based on the Christian tradition, maybe some color or icons that represent a favorite saint or apostle or even from Christ's life. Something evocative . . . We have a small bonsai juniper, which reminds me of the scraggy trees from the Holy Land, so something like that, whatever floats your boat. I like to create little rotating altars with small iconic items that evoke a certain memory or scene for me, and be rotated out as seasons and thoughts change. Kind of like a tablescape only not a dinner table. I have something like this in the bay window of my office, something to look at and rest my eyes and concentration from work.
