Comments (26)Beautiful pictures!! Frenchdressing, your bathroom is stunning! We're using gray as the basic neutral in our new house. We chose SW Evening Shadow for the basic gray and Wall Street for the accent wall that will set off the gray stone fireplace. The charcoal wall is done, ready for the masons to start the fireplace today, and the tinted primer coat is on the rest of the walls -- it matches the Evening Shadow chip exactly, so it gives a good idea of the finished room. We went in on Saturday to look -- a cold, gray, drizzly day -- and I almost panicked. IT'S SOOOO cold and gray!! I know that when the white trim is painted, and our furniture and very bright contemporary art work is in place, there will be color and warmth, but boy, was Saturday the wrong time to look!! I needed to see pictures of finished rooms. Thanks!! Arlene...See Moreaccent wall color and other decorating dilemnas!
Comments (12)Here's a third take on the rug placement. The original placement definitely made it look like it was too small for the room. The 2nd placement didn't seem to take it far enough to create a "conversation" group. This 3rd placement is definitely a conversation group, but the new blank area feels too blank to me and makes me desperately want a proper 8x12. (current is 6.9x10). Maybe its just because I got used to it the way it was. I also am not crazy about the abstract trees over the sofa. looks bland to me. I miss the hydrangea, but it may just be the wrong pictures. too small... too neutral. Doesn't tie in with rug colors as well as the hydrangea did. @junco did you see the original version in the link with the trees on the tv wall. And a closeup of the fp... I just LUV that picture -- no matter where it is! And here's a picture in the foyer that I could bring into the LR space somewhere. Easier to replace a foyer picture that doesn't have to match anything. and I just received and installed an online high-risk purchase of a rug for the nearby sunroom-office. The picture showed camel, but the description said light-green. I felt I could live with either if it was a nice shade. It's not like me to take a gamble like that, but I did (they promised return free shipping if I didn't like it) and I love it. Could be bigger, but it will do for now. The room was soooo cold before. Now I can do windows. Grommet panels for now. fancy roman top-down-bottom-up cordless shades when some money comes in. And I wouldn't be surprised if that green is similar to Huntington Green. On the way to the paint store now to grab some more green samples for FP/Window wall....See MoreNew FamilyRm - Brown Accent wall - need rug/furniture help
Comments (18)A lovely space, and the chocolate brown wall is luscious! I know you said you wanted red as your accent color, but I would think in terms of red being a second color - everything else really is brown. For the accent? A deep turquoise or teal - great with the brown, and amazing with red, too. I assume the tv is going over the fireplace. We don’t see the wall opposite the fireplace, but from looking at the kitchen pix, it would seem that the wall is solid on the left side as you look at it, and has a sliding door on the right. I don’t know if you are thinking sectional or separate pieces, so I will just throw some ideas out there. I would look for a piece like this, to put facing the fireplace/tv. thomasville derby sectional, fabrci 1331-40 You could add a leather ottoman if you feel you need a comfy place for feet , or this round copper coffee table. I think this could be really great in there, with the brown and red tones in it, and the curves to work with the rug and chair shapes and balance all the rectangles in the room. tribecca round copper table A sofa table or low cabinet behind the couch with a pair of lamps for lighting there. Then I would put a pair of upholstered swivel chairs on the left of the couch, facing the window, with a lamp/table between them. Perhaps a deep red fabric like this: sutton swivel glider chair, fabric 2622-91 Then over in the corner to the right of the fireplace, I would love to see a big reading chair, floor lamp and side table, perhaps a chair like this, in leather: linden street leather recliner Finally, a rug with all your colors and some great pattern, perhaps this: linden street chunky loop rug, in the aquamarine background On the back wall to the right of the slider, if there is room, you could have a desk and chair, if that would be useful, or perhaps a small table with two chairs for playing games. I don’t know what you are thinking for window treatments, but panels would be nice just for a finished look. If you need privacy you could also consider woven wood blinds. These panels from JCP might be ones to consider: linden chenille panels in henna stripe Then pillows and accents that pull in the reds and turquoise/teal. And of course art, but that is a personal choice....See Moreplease help with accent chairs and rug
Comments (7)Firstly, to create a conversation area, all furniture's front legs should be on the area rug to create flow. Get a larger area rug and it should have some of the color of the accent chair. The idea is to have a rug which pulls everything together if your furniture is solid colors. A little pattern would do it. I would move the sofa on an angle so it faces the fireplace. Then move the chair to either the left or the right of the sofa and you may only need one more accent chair. Don't forget to add an end table with lighting. I think creating that focal point would be a good start by moving the furniture first....See MoreRelated Professionals
