accent wall color and other decorating dilemnas!
Comments (12)Here's a third take on the rug placement. The original placement definitely made it look like it was too small for the room. The 2nd placement didn't seem to take it far enough to create a "conversation" group. This 3rd placement is definitely a conversation group, but the new blank area feels too blank to me and makes me desperately want a proper 8x12. (current is 6.9x10). Maybe its just because I got used to it the way it was. I also am not crazy about the abstract trees over the sofa. looks bland to me. I miss the hydrangea, but it may just be the wrong pictures. too small... too neutral. Doesn't tie in with rug colors as well as the hydrangea did. @junco did you see the original version in the link with the trees on the tv wall. And a closeup of the fp... I just LUV that picture -- no matter where it is! And here's a picture in the foyer that I could bring into the LR space somewhere. Easier to replace a foyer picture that doesn't have to match anything. and I just received and installed an online high-risk purchase of a rug for the nearby sunroom-office. The picture showed camel, but the description said light-green. I felt I could live with either if it was a nice shade. It's not like me to take a gamble like that, but I did (they promised return free shipping if I didn't like it) and I love it. Could be bigger, but it will do for now. The room was soooo cold before. Now I can do windows. Grommet panels for now. fancy roman top-down-bottom-up cordless shades when some money comes in. And I wouldn't be surprised if that green is similar to Huntington Green. On the way to the paint store now to grab some more green samples for FP/Window wall....See MoreMEG711 or others help me find this (or similar) rug
Comments (9)Thanks for the tips, and Meg thanks for the contact info on the rug. I will try the e-mail address and see if that works. 8'x10'is a bit small though, for the room. The colors are so perfect though! Thanks Hilltop for the sugestions also. I have seen a few rugs with the darker palette, but what I like about the rug in the picture is the softer colors lots of ivory, with just a bit of gold accent. That is what seems hard to find, and that perfect blue! Many of the oriental rugs seem to be in a darker, more sage-color blue and/or to have lots of darker accents. I have a white room with white trim, with a medium-tone oak hardwood floor. I don't have the furniture for it yet, but plan to do silk draperies in an off-white champagne color, a sofa in a champagne color damask, and some chairs in that same very pale teal color in the rug, with some gold accents. That's if I can find the right rug! I did find this one online, but haven't checked yet on what sizes it comes in, and I do not like it nearly as well as Meg's find: I think the large size is going to be tough. I looked at a few of the big name rug makers, and only found a few that seem to offer rugs in the larger sizes. I found some larger rugs, (though not the colors) at Kalaty and Safavieh. If anyone knows of others that offer the larger sizes, let me know. Though I like the oriental pattern, my "plan B" is to go with a tibetan style like this: or this: though again, the size is a problem--can't find one big enough. If anyone has any suggestions/direction, I'd appreciate any help, Thanks!...See Moreplease help with accent chairs and rug
Comments (7)Firstly, to create a conversation area, all furniture's front legs should be on the area rug to create flow. Get a larger area rug and it should have some of the color of the accent chair. The idea is to have a rug which pulls everything together if your furniture is solid colors. A little pattern would do it. I would move the sofa on an angle so it faces the fireplace. Then move the chair to either the left or the right of the sofa and you may only need one more accent chair. Don't forget to add an end table with lighting. I think creating that focal point would be a good start by moving the furniture first....See MoreHelp finish master bedroom...window coverings, rug?, art, accents
Comments (16)Thanks @loobab! That bedding has turned out to be perfect in every way. It has become the inspiration for the whole house color palette. As often happens with decorating projects, I now have a new problem to solve. I have no place to put all those decorative pillows at night. There’s no other furniture in the room besides the bed and nightstands. Adding a bench at the foot of the bed seems silly with all that space on the sides to work with. A chair would be nice, but what else to put with it? I don’t need or want a dresser. And we don’t watch tv in that room, so a media console isn’t relevant. I fear just plopping a chair in one corner won’t be enough. Please help!...See Moreolena
