Comments (8)dianolo: The picture is from 1st Dibs, and it's a vintage Vladimir Kagan cloud sofa, listed for $8900, and $7-9K seems in the ballpark. Room and Board makes a version of this sofa called the Hahn Sofa (designed for them by Kagan), that lists for $2100. It alludes to the VK cloud but doesn't curve as much. They're big: the Hahn is a bit under 8' and the cloud is 9-1/2'. Here is a link that might be useful: R B Hahn Sofa....See MoreDo Leather Couches Wear Well?
Comments (10)Most leather furniture will puddle in the seats with use but its what in the core that will dictate how much puddle you get. Regular foam rubber or down will puddle the most. The most popular cushion core options are called a spring loft or spring fiber. These cushions not only have foam but they also have springs in the seat core itself. These work very much like a mattress would once you get up they will spring back to retain its shape not allowing a puddle to be created. All the while still offering a wonderful, comfortable sit. I have a friend who bought a leather recliner at a chain furniture store and after only a few months hers looks the exact same way you mentioned your does. She bought it from the floor and had no cushion options. Some folks call these comfort wrinkles and yes they will develop over time if you buy a softer seat core or cushion and a really soft leather. A good informed sales person can help you with the right seat cushion for you if you mention your concern. I have leather in several rooms in my home and some pieces puddle while others do not. In some rooms I wanted a puddle look and was going for it, but not in my formal rooms . You can always expect this to happen when the seat core is to soft or when down is used. Some people like down but don't like the puddle so in that case look for a spring, poly down cushion. This gives you the down topper without the huge puddle. Mid to high end manufactures that produce in the USA will usually have these options. All leather furniture will not have a butt print. Its all in the seat cushion core and leather you select....See MoreSmith Bros. of Berne sofa fabric that doesn't pill
Comments (3)Thanks. I have noticed; however, that the degree and duration of pilling with some Smith Bros. fabrics has been unsatisfactory to buyers. I'd like to avoid that so I'm hoping to hear from some folks who've not had the issue....See MoreGood sofa brands and durable fabrics
Comments (5)Welcome to the club! I buy sofas for a long time investment as well. I got a custom couch and chair from Ethan Allen (Melrose - both chair and couch are the same style, but different fabrics - both are great quality and are holding up well) more than five years ago and they are great! I no longer have pets and its just me in the home, so the wear and tear won't be the same as someone who has pets and kids. The light blue couch is a tweed like fabric, and the chair is velvet. Make sure to ask for tailored arm rest covers when you order (so you can throw them in the wash when needed)....See MoreRelated Professionals
