There are many ways to block unwanted calls but that approach doesn't seem to be among the more effective.

I have it, Annie. I'm not experiencing the problems that you cite but my landline phone service is bundled with my ISP and they offer blocked call options as well as a version of [included] nomorobo. It's election time and the phones are busy. 😠☹ I don't get a multi ring through like you're describing but sometimes I do get a one ring with some of the Washington auto dial callers. I then go into my ISP phone options and block the # within their program. It's easier than scurrying around Nomorobo's site.

It has blocked most calls. Some I get one ring and then nothing. Others say SPAM? I don't answer landline ever unless I recognize the screen name.

I have been looking for a method to block the Message portion of my IPhone other than changing my number. Apparently my number is on a list that was first sold on college campuses in California in late July since the email addresses all showed edu and a California college. It has now been reduced from the 5+ a day that I was receiving to two. One sometime in the morning the other at either 10:30 or 11:30. The only message is a link to another page. I typed the link in and did a search when one of the names was the daughter of someone I used to work with. Do I really want to visit sites to see hot young bodies?

I’d say it blocks 75 percent of mine and I have noticed that I get fewer robocalls than in the past.m Stick with it.

Nomorobo seems to work about 50% of the time for me and works better on my landline than on my cell phone. Still, even a 50% reduction is worth having the service.

Double check with your carrier that the all the right settings are set correctly. You may have missed a step.

It blocks about 50% or so of mine too. Sometimes it rings once, sometimes not at all. Some do still get through but it's better than not having it. Plus it's free so there's that. :)

I only have it on my landline. On my iPhone, only my children know my number so any other calls which are very few ,I ignore.

I have it and I think it does a good job. When it rings once and stops can be annoying but it doesn't happen often.

Nomobobo got a little carried away recently and starting blocking calls from my Town Hall so I was missing important messages about trash collection, street parking etc. Took me a while to figure it out.

Our volume dropped by 90% when we dropped our landline last year. Now, though, we're starting to get more spam on one of the cell phones.

We have ooma and opted to have calls screened for spam, for a fee each month. We feel it hasn't done a good job but then, that may be relative. If we didn't have it, how many would there be? I haven't quite decided whether to kill the landline yet, but I'm getting close--dh would like to and I know he's right in that we rarely get a "real" call on it.

I must say though, I'm sick of getting 2-6 spam calls a day on my cell phone. I don't answer if there's no name attached, and that has been a problem with medical calls, etc.

Annie I use HIYA. I was thinking of changing to nomorobo.... but now, that I know it works pretty well like HIYA... I guess, I stick with where I am. HIYA works like what you describe.

Maifleur, I get messages for David, ever since I got this number.... in 2016..... very extremely annoying.

I also get emails now, to my text messages... WHAT gives, GOOGLE... WHY can't you block that? Yes, I did search, and there is NO WAY. :(

I do not have a landline.

I used to answer ALL calls, even from out of the country... because of the hospitality site I am on, for cyclists. But since COVID, I am marked :" Not available", as I don't want strangers from where ever they were in my house at this time.

sjierin, I too have Ooma, pay $10 a month for premium service that includes blocking. I receive NO (ZERO!) unwanted calls. Never.

Maybe you need to change the settings a bit.

I uploaded contact lists (which I try to always keep current) from my cell phone and my wife's cell phone to Ooma. You need to download the Android or iPhone app (as applicable) to do that. I add new numbers through the My Ooma website from time to time, or if a call not in the list is received (see below).

Then on My Ooma, under Preferences, Call Blocking, Select "Custom" and check the box at the bottom that says "Block all numbers not in my contacts". You have 4 choices what to do with such calls (which, no matter what is chosen, will not ring the phone when incoming). You can:

-Send it to the Ooma system voicemail

-Play "Call Blocked" message

-Play "Number Disconnected" message

-Ring continuously

We use the first choice, sending any such calls to the Ooma voicemail system. Our Panasonic cordless phone shows a special message when the Ooma system has a message, different from the message shown when the Panasonic phone itself has recorded a message from a permitted caller. When you connect to My Ooma, the caller ID and length of message for calls that got bounced are shown and it's easy to just delete calls from bogus or unwanted sources without listening to the message. When the call is from a valid source, but someone not in the contact list, there's an icon to add it to let it in the next time.

You can also see Ooma system voicemail messages in the app, without connecting to My Ooma.

As above, it works 100% of the time. I hope you can try it. Feel free to message me if I might help you.

At your suggestion, I just went through my account and I don't see anywhere that they allow me to change any settings. Either I'm covered or I'm not. It may be different with a paid service but I'm using the free one offered through my cable provider so I guess I'm stuck. Maybe if I keep reporting numbers it will get better....I can always hope.
