It's Fair to Speculate If Biden is mentally fit to be president

elvis

Reagan put the aging question to rest with his now famous line: “I will not make age an issue of this campaign. I am not going to exploit, for political purposes, my opponent’s youth and inexperience.” A decade later, Reagan announced to the world that he had Alzheimer’s disease. Joe Biden is 77, four years older than Reagan was during the 1984 campaign. If Biden is elected, he’ll be older on the day he takes office than Reagan was on the day he left office. So yes, his mental fitness is a legitimate issue.

There is plenty of cause for concern. Biden recently announced “I think we can win back the House” and promised to ban the “AR-14.” He mistook Super Tuesday for “Super Thursday,” and forgot the words of the Declaration of Independence, saying “We hold these truths to be self-evident. All men and women are created, by the, you know, you know the thing.” In South Carolina, he misstated what office he was running for, declaring “My name’s Joe Biden. I’m a Democratic candidate for the United States Senate.” On three occasions last month, Biden declared he was arrested in South Africa trying to visit Nelson Mandela in prison — an incident his campaign later admitted never happened. He earlier described meeting a Navy captain in Afghanistan, but The Post reported that “almost every detail in the story appears to be incorrect.” He claimed to have worked with Chinese leader “Deng Xiaoping” on the Paris Climate Accord (Deng died in 1997)/. He claimed during a debate that “150 million people have been killed [by guns] since 2007” (which would be nearly half the U.S.
population). He said he met with Parkland victims while he was vice president even though the shooting took place after he left office. He has declared that Democrats should "choose truth over facts” and that “poor kids are just as bright and just as talented as white kids.” He pledged to use biofuels to power “steamships.” He repeatedly gets confused about what state he is in; called “Fox News Sunday” anchor Chris Wallace “Chuck”; said his late son Beau “was the attorney general of the United States”; and confused former British prime minister Theresa May with the late British prime minister Margaret Thatcher.

Any one of these gaffes in isolation would be nothing more than that. But taken together they form a pattern – and raise questions about whether Biden has experienced a cognitive decline. Biden’s defenders say this is unfair, and some have even suggested raising it is ageism. No, it’s not. His socialist rival, Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-Vt.) is 78 — almost a year older than Biden — yet no one is questioning his mental fitness. On Monday night, Sanders spent an hour at a Fox News town hall where he was challenged to defend his policies and answered in great detail and without any gaffes or senior moments. Could Biden do the same?

Many of President Trump’s critics have suggested that he suffers from cognitive impairment. Well, in 2018, Trump took a test designed to screen for dementia — the Montreal Cognitive Assessment — and the White House physician reported he received a perfect score. Will Biden submit to the same test?

I'm always curious as to the motives of the authors of these vituperative articles, shrouded under the cover of "opinion" pieces. And of course we're all entitled to our own opinions.

"Marc Alexander Thiessen (born January 13, 1967) is an American author, political appointee, and weekly columnist for The Washington Post. Thiessen served as a speechwriter for United States President George W. Bush from 2004 to 2009 and Secretary of Defense Donald Rumsfeld from 2001 to 2006.[1]

In 2010, he published the book Courting Disaster: How the C.I.A. Kept America Safe and How Barack Obama Is Inviting the Next Attack,
which defended the use of torture during the George W. Bush
administration, and claimed that the Obama administration's rejection of
torture might lead to American deaths.[2]"

Sounds like he may have a few kangaroos loose in the top paddock...

"Will Biden submit to the same test?"

Well, let's see literally Trump take the test. So when Biden is president, he can take the test publicly.

PS: the author is part of AEI, which receives substantial funding from David Koch. But most of its money is considered 'dark money'. This includes DeVos's family foundation money.

Thiessen is hardly neutral about who should win.

Bernie certainly shouldn't have his mental fitness challenged. Not everyone loses mental fitness. Some die at an old age, mentally sharp. Others suffer from dementia and other forms of mental decline at a fairly early age. Those who live a long life arrive at old age with significantly varying degrees of mental fitness. It is what it is for each one of us and it's most certainly not consistent among those of the same age! Not unlike physical fitness!!!! It varies and varies significantly among people of the same age!

Joe Biden is his own person. He has never been one to use politics to enrich himself as the Trump family is doing. I have complete confidence in his intentions and honesty as a leader for the US.

It is a crime to whom the Trumps have aligned themselves so they can enrich the family. MBS, Erdogan, Putin, and other dictators. In essence they have condoned murders by Erdogan, MBS, and Putin. There is no low in that family if they can make a deal for themselves at the expense and security of the US.

olliesmom...apparently you not see the double negative in your statement which means RW media *would* say *something* about that.

But they already have even as a candidate...only in a perverse way. They accuse him of being antisemitic...

https://www.mic.com/p/right-wing-radio-hosts-call-bernie-sanders-a-jewish-man-anti-semitic-21816642

From Feb 2020:

Mark Levin and Michael Savage are two of the most prominent firebrands in the world of conservative radio, so it’s not surprising that they have a gift for hyperbole. Still, over the last two days, the hosts — both of whom are Jewish — have outdone themselves with the ferocity of their attacks on Bernie Sanders’s Jewish identity. On air Tuesday, Levin accused Sanders, a Jewish man whose family died in the Holocaust, of anti-Semitism....

Levin continued in this vein, drawing parallels between Sanders and the Nazis who killed the Vermont senator’s family. “The kind of people Bernie Sanders is pulling around him could come out of the Third Reich,” Levin said. “The man leading the Democrat Party right now is embracing an Islamo-Nazi mentality when it comes to the Jewish state. He hates America. Every proposal he has is not merely to fundamentally transform one institution or another, it's to burn them down to the ground.”

“That's Marx. That's Engels. That's Hegel. And that's Alinsky,” Levin continued, referencing notable left-wing theorists in history. “And it's Bernie Sanders.”

So stop accusing me of spreading hate and lies -- a personal attack that is against the RoR -- and look instead to the rw media and its mouthpieces for doing exactly that.

I watched Joe Bidens speech today and his pre-selected journalists with pre-prepared questions. I don't understand is the media stoked hatred of Pres. Trump so great that dems can't see that Biden is incapable of handling the rigors of the presidency? Even today, he wouldn't denounce China as our greatest threat, pivoting to Russia. Does he think Hunter needs another 1.6 million from China? Yesterday he went to visit a rapist in the hospital. I guess the Me Too movement is over with. Then he visited the father who is an avowed anti-semite and follower of Farakhan. Oh well.

Good heavens. Has no one noticed the predominant "color" of persons hiding behind those ANTIFA masks? Why are Democrat "leaders" allowing white kids to get away with burning down businesses? Can't get more "White Supremacist" than to stand by while minority communities are robbed and looted. Who decided white kids are entitled to get away with crimes, and the leaders have no duty to hold them accountable?

Joe Biden releases medical assessment, described as 'healthy, vigorous'

WASHINGTON — President Donald Trump may call Joe Biden “sleepy,” but the former vice president’s physician states that the 77-year-old is in good health and nowhere near slowing down.

Dr. Kevin O’Connor of The George Washington University released a three-page medical summary of Biden's health on Tuesday at the request of his patient, in which he described Biden as a “healthy, vigorous, 77-year-old male, who is fit to successfully execute the duties of the Presidency to include those as Chief Executive, Head of State and Commander in Chief.”

Between the ages of 3 and 58, president Donald Trump inherited at least $413 million from his father’s business empire using some potentially fraudulent tax-dodging methods, a blockbuster New York Times investigation shows.

The last tranche came in 2004—years after his father, Fred, died—when Trump and his siblings sold off their father’s empire. The deal seems to have been done in a rush, and they offloaded the building for hundreds of millions less than it was worth, the Times reports. Nonetheless, Donald picked up $177.3 million, or $236.2 million at today’s rates, the Times reports.

She was able to gain access to the financial documents and then finally gave them to the reporters to analyze. Y'know the one with the best selling book out now about what a great guy her uncle is.
