Transitioning floor into the kitchen in new open floor plan

Caren

We are remodeling the kitchen in our 1940s bungalow, opening up the kitchen to an open floor plan. The house has original oak floors with a border that will now be "interrupted" by the new cabinets and peninsula and there seems to be no economically sound way to transition the same floor into the kitchen without redoing the floors in the entire house. Our current (soon to be former) flooring company is telling us there is nothing that will look good in the kitchen. Assuming we do not intend to be floorless forever, we are reaching out for some ideas. Thanks!
