Comments (1)Try the garlic store. You might ask them if there is any way you can grow something down there. Here is a link that might be useful: the garlic store...See MoreIs Chesnok Red, or German white hardneck garlics any good?
Comments (2)Thank you. I want to make sure I'm getting very strong flavored garlic. I know Chesnok red produces relatively smaller cloves, but taste matters the most. One thing I'm finding it that 1 pound of garlic is really not that much so I do plan on letting these guys waste 15% of their eventual bulb size to produce scapes. I plan on planting over 2000 cloves of garlic, and so far only have around 900 in the ground of all hardneck species. I guess I'll have to make a majority of my garlic the softneck species which I have always had in abundance....See MoreWhere to find curly garlic?
Comments (5)Yes, I think its a garlic chive strain. There is no actual garlic bulb for the garlic chives, but instead some thick green leaf blades that have a mild garlic smell and taste. The leaves do have a slight spiral shape. These come from small black seeds that have been planted the previous summer. They like to be growing in clumps and do flower, which bees go crazy over. Comments (25)Hi Folks, I just wanted to throw in my $.02 on the subject of controlling Japanese Knotweed. This past week I spent two days removing the knotweed from hill along the side of my driveway. The infestation had been growing for about two years and spreading rapidly. In my case, the hillside that was covered in knotweed also had some plants that I wanted to save- some sugar maples, four varieties of ferns, and some viburnum, so using a foliar spray was out of the question. Instead, I used the "cut stem application" as outlined in this document: http://www.pullman-wa.gov/content/WYSIWYG/Recreation/Japanese%20knotweed.pdf The document recommends cutting the canes between the first and second node and filling the "well" with concentrated herbicide (I chose plain Glyophosphate, you choose your own poison). The document claims this method is 95% effective. Another method involves injecting the plant with herbicide using an injection tool. The upside to this method is that you don't need to dispose of the cut canes. In all, it took me just about two days to clear the hillside. I cut enough canes to completely fill my 8' truck bed two times. I'll keep an eye on the area for the next year or so in case any survivors pop up. -Josh-...See More- 6 years agoUser thanked dcarch7 d c f l a s h 7 @ y a h o o . c o m
