Design Dilemma Paint Kitchens

Updating kitchen paint color with White Linen Ben Moore trim

We have been struggling for months with updating the paint color in our kitchen. We started searching colors but realized that because all the trim is White Linen, it’s quite off-white and yellowy and makes selecting new paint colors for our home quite challenging.

We will update all the trim to a whiter white someday, but that’s a huge undertaking and the house was freshly painted about a year ago.

I’ve been considering a beige color, but feel like it might be too much beige with the flooring. We aren’t considering painting cabinets right now because we are hoping to redo the kitchen in the next 5 years, it has a terrible layout.

Any suggestions are appreciated!

We’ve also tried searching a light blue but colors seem so garish against the cabinetry color.

Have you seen jbrodie's kitchen? It is at the top of my stack of inspiration photos. It sounds similar to what you are proposing. I copied this from one of the posts in the thread, I hope it is OK to do that: Paint colors: Benjamin Moore Natura 1000 Northwood Brown walls in the kitchen 998 Cabot Trail in the family room (somewhere I read...probably on this forum...that it works well to use two colors that are two or three PMS colors apart). Cabinets: Bejamin Moore Aura in Acadia White. I find it looks pretty bright white in the middle of the day with bright sunlight shining in, and then quite creamy at night when the lights are on. The first two coats were sprayed and the final coat was brushed so we would be able to touch up when needed. Another thing I learned on the forum! Hope that is helpful! I may be replying to an old post...having a white dilemma! Moving to a new home soon, and I need to choose a white for the painter soon! I used BM Cotton Balls in my current home in 2 bedrooms, one is north facing and the other is south facing. worked well...nice and bright but not stark, however the hallway to the rooms look beige, which I am not fond of. New home has both north and south exposures + a hallway without a lot of light. Considering Simply White. Second question...the baseboards are lovely and very high, I would like them to remain a feature, which white to choose for trim? Your comments are appreciated!!!

Sorry, I don't have a photo right now, but I'm not sure that would even help you. You really just have to test it in your space with your lighting. I recommended it recently to a friend who said it ended up reading pink-ish for her. We didn't have that issue at all. WB worked so well but each space is different. You just have to test it in the room. Paint it on a large piece of foam core board and move it around the room throughout the day.

- Maybe paint it the same color as the trim but add a paintable wallpaper like this to add some interest. Can be the whole wall or maybe just as a backsplash. Egon Paintable Textured Vinyl RD80029 Brewster Wallpaper

With the reddish cabinets and tan/pinkish floors, you would be better off with a neutral to warm white rather than gray or blue. I would look for a white with a hint of beige/taupe - something that gives you some contrast to your trim, but is significantly lighter than your floors. Try BM Elmira White. Paint your sample between the cabinets next to the baseboard.

@lesliejanesconsulting Can you confirm the color name? Is it Linen White and not White Linen? The issue you have is the Yellowness of your Trim, and the Pink of your Tile. Yellow trim does not play well with Pink tile. And then you have Orange Cabinets. I tried to suggest colors that would bridge the pink and yellow. Hopefully one of these will work with what you have going on and give you a more neutral harmonious look. Adding another "color" into your kitchen would be quite jarring, as your pink tile and orange cabinets already draw your eye. I know you are hoping to avoid "beige" but I hope you will consider these.

Sorry, I had it backwards, yes it is linen white and yes the yellow trim is a problem in the whole house! I really appreciate the suggestions and I will definitely pick up a few of these. I was worried that it would be too much beige so I really appreciate that you think it would look better - thank you, we have been struggling so much with this!
