Furniture Design Dilemma Living Room

Furniture layout help for oddly shaped room?

I have created a rough render to showcase the struggle. The brown door is the front door of the house that swings in. There are two windows upon entering through the front door on the right side of the room which can not be seen on the "real photo". The fireplace is in the corner on an angle and the wall behind it is flat. The archway represents the open area leading to the kitchen, yet is angled shown on the other photo.

My initial idea was to place the TV above the fireplace, but after some research I see that is not necessarily a desirable location and layout wise it makes it difficult to have seating facing that direction space wise. What is a possible layout here for seating (possibly a couch or sectional along with a chair) as well as a table and TV placement? Thank you immensely.

So as not to have furniture in entry path, I would do a well sized L sectional in this placement.

Or a sofa + chair - and a swivel chair could be a good option for this arrangenent. Sofa placed where red marking is, chair placed approximately where purple marking is.

With tv mounted, or placed on stand, on wall to left of fireplace. And I see there is an outlet right there.

If there is little room for a tv console, a stand like this could also be used. Plus, a mobile tv stand like this can be helpful - to adjust for tv viewing distances.

From your one photo, it is hard to get a sense of the available space for a tv in that spot there. But that is where I would place the tv.

If you have a dining room, another option could possibly be switching living room and dining room. So the dining room would be in front room by the fireplace. If you are able to have a flexible dining room setup, you could use a round table and folding chairs, and when not having guests over for dinner, could set front room up as entry foyer.

If you needed the space to be set up as dining room all the time, that works, also.

But would need pics of dining room and/or any other rooms that might possibly work - in order to determine the feasibility of making a switch.

I would have TV between FP and window and place seating furniture facing TV and FP from one side and creating entry way on another side.

Is it correct that if you put a sofa against the wall, it will not be centered in front of the fireplace? Are those screen-covered bookshelves or radiators flanking the fireplace? It's tricky because of traffic flow, but you could try a loveseat or small sectional directly in front of the fireplace leaving a walkway behind it for people coming in the front door. They would have to maneuver a bit to get to the kitchen. Then the tv would go above the fireplace as Lindsey suggested. Otherwise, you could put reclining chairs on each side of the fireplace with an ottoman/coffee table in front of the fireplace and the tv on the large empty wall.

It seems odd that all the suggestions have most or all of the seating with its back to the TV and/or the windows. I dunno, but I think I'd put the couch as in your first photo, and add a couple of chairs in that same zone = TV room. Then put a small cluster of chairs at the other end of the room as a conversational grouping (around a table) with the option to look out the windows or enjoy the fireplace.

The rest of the house is much more contemporary so the furniture is all going. The reason for mismatched is because we moved from a house where we had separate eat in kitchen and dining room. we Need all that seating for the family until I can buy something that matches throughout. I have considered 2 long tables with a walkway between that aligns with the innermost door. new chandeliers relocated over each and keep A large cabinet in the alcove for storage. Maybe I’m just making it too complicated. Thanks for the feedback.

The stove is gas and we've never used it. I would love to tear out all the brickwork but the original chimney is walled off behind it so it would be a huge, expensive project if it's even structurally feasible. This house has a lot of projects and the main level is my priority so the wet bar will have to wait even though it would be great to have that done. Maybe I can find a slide to attach to the wet bar...they climb on it anyway...and then put the climber on the back deck if it will fit. My boys play outside a ton when we have snow, but 2/3 of the winter we have no snow and apparently it's not so much fun to play outside when it's cold, windy, and dry. We did have the room open for a playroom when we first moved in but then DH insisted on getting that sectional. I would have preferred just a couch and more open space. Maybe if I split the sectional up I can make the room more open again.

The wall to the left of the fireplace is only 35 inches or so and is not wide enough to support a decent sized TV I don’t believe

Planning on getting new furniture, just something to have for the moment so these pieces aren’t necessarily what has to be manipulated as they are a bit bulky for the space.

You could put it over the fireplace, then - and use this mount. Mount lowers tv and also angles it. There is a motorized option as well.
