Lighting over surface mounted medicine cabinet
Comments (20)I know this is an old thread, but I faced the same issue: surface mounted medicine cabinet 4 7/8" deep. I found a Kohler Tone 3-light vanity fixture Model #31770-SCO3- BNL (brushed nickel one) that was perfect. It extends 10 3/4 inch out, but it's only 6 inches high. It was beautiful, but after ordering from Lowe's, it went from delivery 6/12 to delayed to out of stock. Damnitall. Whoever reads this...it will be available in October, 2023. I talked to a Lamps Plus clerk who said the entire bulb must fully extend out past the medicine cabinet to avoid all shadow. This Kohler model does that. I had to totally switch gears to a fixture that pointed up. I hope it will work to provide enough light. I'm not as thrilled about it, but you have to be practical to get the bathroom remodeled in time. I hope this is helpful. Good luck to all who face this issue!...See MoreMedicine cabinet problems
Comments (3)I suspect that one will fit, as well as all the other ones you see in the big box stores. The "standard depth" in their specs probably means the total depth, not the depth of the recess. If you look at one in person, the cabinet part is probably 4" deep. I wish the old homes around me had 2x6 "normal" plumbing walls! I always get 2x4's in old homes. Comments (0)Against all recommendations I am ordering the Godmorgon/Odensvik vanity/sink combo (using a Vigo Noma Faucet). Their Rinnen plumbing parts are not code here so I will need to find a way to sub the parts & make it work. Regarding the Medicine Cabinet, I finally went into a store to look at everything in person & while I loved the vanity/sink, I was disappointed in Godmorgon Mirror Cabinet. The outside doors are glass but all interior parts are mirrored foil. When I tapped on the back, it felt extremely thin & none of the doors were aligned & straight, perhaps due to poor installation. I currently have a Robern Cabinet. I have already replaced the [3] doors once due to de-silvering & now need to do it again. Have to say for the price, I am not pleased but it is all glass & solid. The cost of replacing 3 Robern Doors & hinges exceeds the Ikea Cabinet. Ikea's is also a tad deeper 5 1/2 vs 4 5/8". There are many beautiful pictures of bathrooms here with this cabinet & would love some feedback on the performance of the foil parts, do the doors align, etc. thanks!...See MoreNeed advice on lighted medicine cabinet
Comments (4)You can do a search on this forum on Robern med cabs and read about issues with the silvering behind the glass coming off and showing black. Some say that you should only use water to clean the mirrors. Others say that they only used water and it still happened. Then people say not to spray anything on the glass and use only a water-dampened cloth to clean the mirror. I am not sure that this issue is even isolated to Robern. I have Pottery Barn med cabs and they have not yet had issues. Others will pop in and give more advice....See MoreRelated Professionals
