Rose Catalog Now Available
Comments (27)I unloaded the box of goodies and immediately realized it wasn't there. I hoped it was in good hands. I can approach her about putting her "catalog" on line, but I don't know how she'll respond. It's her baby and she likes being in control of all facets, which is her right. We'll see how she feels about it. I like the idea, though. I know her availability fluctuates widely, which is understandable. How do you deal with expecting to sell a dozen of something every six months so you produce with that expectation. Then, the phone rings and the caller takes ALL twelve?! Comments (36)I hope it changes, but it is supposed to rain this Saturday in Sacramento and be in the 60s. :-/ Im still going and bringing my hubby and parents... but darn! Question for those who volunteer at the cemetery... my dad is in his late seventies and very active, but still has some limitations. He really misses his big garden (recently moved to a smaller place in Sacramento), but when I talked about volunteering there he was worried that it would be too structured and he may not be able to commit. There are volunteers that don't have to come every week at a certain time right? Some that can drop in when they're able? He is a fabulous retired hairdresser and we were teasing him that he could be like Edward Scissor Hands there. :-) I think it would be really enjoyable for him... but a big commitment might be too much for him. There's a place for volunteers like him, if he's up for it, right? Who would he talk to there? Anita would that be you?...See MoreReverence for Roses, Palatine - Hurrah for mail-order rose nurseries!
Comments (42)Perma: Yes, an antique rose is much more than just a rose. It's history, it's romance, it's beauty, it's fragrance, it's science, it's life, it's culture, it's poetry, it's magic. It's a reason to get out of bed in the morning--to look around excitedly to see what bloomed. Like you this is basically my only indulgence. I've been frugal by necessity for decades. This is really the only thing I've done for myself and I don't feel guilty for spending the money. What's stopping me now is I have no sunny space left to put them and I am really pushing it on shade tolerance with many of them already. Ingrid: I agree. I think the future will be worse than those forecasts. Jin: Yes, with money just about anything in the garden is possible. I could spend thousands easily in the garden. Every year! I want to fix my paths and get some flowering plants that are shade tolerant. Maybe a bunch of encore azaleas for starters. I'm eventually going to have to shift my focus to shade gardening because for every square foot of sun I have about 200 square feet in shade. I really wish I could get as worked up over shade plants as I am for antique roses. As an aside, my crape myrtles are all blooming now and they are really beautiful but they do not make my heart go pitter patter like my roses do....See MorePalatine- what are you ordering?
Comments (352)it's sad but true. Note that Peter Schneider has a large list of discontinued DA roses on his Custom Propagation list--I think Schneider and Palatine have a good relationship with each other and have seen similar roses carried by both. I am tremendously jealous of anyone who managed to get a WS2000....See Moreflowersaremusic z5 Eastern WA
