Is the home modern or traditional looking?

Here are some that I’ve saved. I’d consider some modern farmhouse features but I don’t want it so trendy that I’ll regret that in a few years. Overall, the home is more traditional. Construction starting next month.

I would slide that range to the right so that the range venting has direct to the outside venting and so that the range is not directly across from the sink. Someone working at the sink will but butts with someone at the range.

Also suggest more drawer bases than regular base cabinets. Then you won’t be installing a bunch of pullouts in those cabinets later. Is that a HD or Lowes’s plan?

You also need a filler between a wall and cabinet, always. This gets the drawers out away from trim and allows doors to open fully. Important if you end up putting a rollout in the cabinet. Also suggest changing the cabinet above the fridge to a 37” wide. This allows for better fit of the fridge. Be sure the designer has allowed for enough space for the trim to return into the wall. (Usually you try to have 3 to 6 inches between end of cabinet runs to the trim on the door.) Do the dimensions used allow for the width of the door trim?

Your base cabinets are all missing the furniture finished ends.

Thanks! I’m torn on moving the range because I’d like to keep it, the sink and the fireplace in line. I do need to speak with the builder about ventilation and the garage wall directly behind the range. I hear you on the butt to butt! I’m thinking that it won’t be too often that the oven door will be open at the same time someone is doing dishes. Still pondering. I’ll definitely add drawers. Not a Lowes or HD plan but just what the cabinet store put on paper for measurements. I will meet with them and our builder’s designer when Covid permits. Appreciate your input.

What are you doing for a back panel on the island? A wall? A panel that matches the cabinets? Also, need to add toe kick for the island.

There is only one spot in the entire room that the view will look lined up. And function trumps that one spot. You don’t want to butt butts with your kids getting a drink of water all the time. And it will put using the dishwasher further from the cooking zone.

I think we’ll do a 12” deep bank of cabinets behind regular cabinets And put rarely used items there. We are thinking the island countertop will be 9’x4’. What are your thought on a curved countertop to soften things a bit? I prefer the rectangle shape but everything is so rectangular I feel the need to break it up.

Your overhang should be 15”. And 1-2” for overhang on the front of the cabinet. So, 2+24+12+15=53”. More experienced designers will have to weigh in on the curve. I like them but it will require more support for the countertop.

Engage the services of a good kitchen designer or you will be sentencing yourself to 15 years hard labor in your own kitchen. It will be a good investment.

Regarding trendiness, I'd avoid both shiplap and the ponderous "French country" style hood (both in the first photo). If you keep it simple and functional it won't go out of style.

Your second and third photo are beautiful!

Agree with others that alignment and symmetry are overrated :)
