Can we do another "what-are-you-watching" thread?
Comments (101)I too sort of liked Virgin River. Formulaic but not too bad, at least the woman doctor isn't insipid. I have watched the Kominsky Method both season twice. There is a poignancy there that speaks to me. Watched "Gentification" this weekend and loved it. It's more than half in Spanish with subtitles but takes place in the US/Los Angeles Boyle neighborhood. That didn't bother me. I found its message about struggling as an artist/creator and trying to keep neighborhood traditions alive in changing economic times very relatable even for me in a small midwestern town. A tad stereotypical, but what TV isn't a tad stereotypical. Pick your poison. Bear in mind this is just my .02, but I loathe "Mrs. Maisel" let me count the ways. Sophomoric is one that comes to mind. Great eye candy but oh so Disneyfied do don't call it ground breaking. And as a Jew, I find it a terribly insulting lame self-parody, and that's being kind. No reflection on the talent in the show though. My grandkids turned me on to "Stranger Things." So far so good but I'm not very far into it. For sci fi fans mostly though. I gravitate towards escapist things with a strong dose of humor but I'm always down for a little genuine pathos, but not ones that make me gag at their pretensions....See MoreMovies I’ve liked recently (not recent movies)
Comments (87)Last night I watched Selma (free rental on Amazon Prime and YouTube). We're discussing it in a Zoom class today and I'd left it till the last minute. I was totally unprepared for its impact. Some of it was difficult to watch but I needed to see this. I went through a lot of Kleenex....See MoreNot very successful tv viewing day for me
Comments (18)I rarely watch any regular TV other than PBS. But I do have several streaming services and I am in the middle of watching a re-release of All Creatures Great and Small on Britbox. And I got a free trial month of Amazon Prime and have been binging on Bosch, Endeavor and Silent Witness and eager to start The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel before my month runs out! I also recently sought relief from our current disastrous political climate by watching all of the West Wing....again :-) And I did watch PBS last night and quite liked Flesh and Blood. I love Francesca Annis and British dramas do tend to be be pretty gritty and often dark. And they are rebroadcasting Escape to the Chateau, which is an absolute joy to watch! I also admit to watching a couple of Tyler Perry's Medea Halloween themed movies - they crack me up!!...See MoreYay!! Frivolous, but nonetheless I'm happy
Comments (19)A little OT, but it makes me warm inside to remember my DH's two elderly aunts, one born in 1900 and the other in 1903. They were widows in their 80's and lived together, and we used to love visiting them. They subscribed to every newspaper and magazine and knew everything going on in the world. But what I really wanted to tell is how the two of them drooled over Tom Selleck in the original Magnum PI. He was their eye candy....See Morebragu_DSM 5
