Comments (15)Sounds like you're doing too much at once. Take it one room at a time. You're jumping from one thing to another, to another, to another. Whenever I buy something I don't like (or think I don't like), I live with it for a week. If after that time I still hate it, then I go on to Plan B, which for me is either finding a way to make it work, or convince DH that it needs to be returned. After living with it for a few days, I usually wind up keeping the item b/c it never is as bad as my first reaction. I have SW Blonde in one of the bedrooms and I really like it. I think we are going to use the same color for our basement. Another similar color is SW Restrained Gold. If you like slate in the bathroom then go for it. We have a slate-looking porcelain floor in the master bath and I love it. We stayed at a resort this summer where the whole bathtub wall was slate. It was a very rustic look. I know how you feel with wanting to redecorate and get everything done. We've lived in our house 8 1/2 years and have not done anything to the kitchen except paint. I so want to change out the countertops and backsplash and DH doesn't want to b/c he doesn't think there's anything wrong with them. Most men don't understand the redecorating bug. Comments (9)I hate wasted space. I know you covered the blind corner wall cabinet above, but what about the base cabinet? It needs to be a blind corner or a corner base cabinet with Super Susan. Either will work. In your case, I think the blind corner base might be best. Remember, bigger drawers will give you better utility. IMO, anything less than 27", especially, by a range or range top, is getting to be questionable. It will be less expensive if you reduce the number of drawers, but make them bigger. There will be fewer drawer faces required and this will result in some savings. You pay extra for every door or drawer face, plus installation, plus hardware, plus pulls. The layout looks good to me. I do worry that you are losing too much prep space with the wall cabinets resting on the counters. It's a great look, but make sure you have at least 36" on each side of the range. I don't know if you are planning on replacing the Bluestar. If not, consider a 3" spacer on each side to reduce the likelihood of heat damage. You don't need a 48" hood with a 36" range. Unless you are reusing something. For capture, 42" is optimal. Why not use that 6" savings for wall cabinet space? Can't help with the sink. Given that a prep sink doesn't seem to work with this plan, two faucets at the sink might be something to consider. Can you increase the depth of the island? It seems a shame not to put some storage under the outer side of the island. The pictures look great. We can't see the damage. That's a kitchen I would have been happy to use. Comments (11)If you put seating at a raised bar on the peninsula, you won't need seating on the island, which will give you more space between the kitchen and family room seating, but that would take away space from the DR. I don't like to put wall ovens in the middle of the work space, but you need a landing space, and putting the vertical column between the clean-up sink and the cooking surface would be a bad idea, IMO. The ovens are represented by the red outline on the next plan, but you'd need to make sure the fridge door doesn't hit the oven handles--some fridges have a built-in door stop on one of the hinges, set to stop the door at 130°. Personally, I'd prefer them on the other side of the fridge, which would also solve the problem of the fridge being against the wall, but there would be no adjacent landing space, which is not recommended by the NKBA. In that case the prep sink could be placed on the other end of the island, to leave landing space for the oven. Or, the prep sink could be omitted, because the fridge would be closer to the clean-up sink, which would also give you another drawer bank in the island. (And your husband will be happy. ;) I drew optional windows on each side of the cooktop/range in this plan, which would bring in some light, but that would eliminate the only upper cabinets in the kitchen, and I don't see a pantry. In the plan on the right, I m/l flipped the kitchen and DR (it looks off because the original pic is canted). You'd definitely have to reduce the depth of the island, and this layout would put the fridge near the LR FP. I'm not sure how a full wall would work in that spot. You'd need to eliminate the wall oven to include a pull-out beside the fridge, if there's a full wall on that side....See MoreRelated Professionals
