Living room storage and furniture

My husband and I moved into this beautiful 1963 house a month ago. We have 5 kids (ages 4-14). We have been living with family for the last decade! So this is our first house and don't know what quality furniture to get. The accent wall color of living room is purple which I don't like. I definitely want a darker blue, perhaps a combination with green. I am an artist, and would like to do a large painting to go on that wall as a focal point. We also have space heaters on that wall, so furniture won't be able to go all the way to the wall. However, the opposite wall (with the mirror) doesn't have space heaters. I would like to put a picture collage of our family on that wall. We have a few toys in this area for guests. Most of the toys are in their rooms or in the basement. But I dont want kids to go on their rooms when company comes with little ones. So I moved the pretend kitchen to the living room. Our budget is not large due to recently purchasing the house. Any suggestions on furniture like sofas or shelving would be appreciated! I rather stay with the beige of the walls as it's everywhere (kitchen too) and it will be a mayor task and careful decision for color choice, I rather wait on. There is a lot of cabinetry throughout the house in a medium wood color (similar to the mantel) and the door framea are stained in a darker wood shade. I was thinking Ikea shelving, or the industrial look of black frame shelving with wood shelving.. black, white and wood are throughout the house too. And it looks very good. Thanks in advance if you made it through my long post!
