huge hydrangea, no blooms
Comments (2)I'm not really sure. I am so new to this. Before I moved it, it bloomed all but one year. After I moved it, it bloomed once and then not again for 2 years. Now I have moved it again to a more sunny location. The last spot was no sun. I am now waiting for the bloom season here in Indiana to see if it might bloom. I covered it with about 6 inches of leaves and pine needles and I removed all but about 1 inch of it Easter day. I only planted it even with the top of it's dirt. I'm at a loss. Thanks...See MoreCeiling Fans-Huge Dilemma--Help?
Comments (26)Ughhhhh, but I think I need a hugger. The ceilings are 8', even if I get one with a short 3" downrod it will put the fan under 7'. I don't think I can have one under 7'. I have to go do some exact measurements today. Maybe the ceiling is higher by a couple of inches. I did do a lot of research on the hugger style. They are all not created equally. The 52" Hunter moves a lot more air vs the 42" Hunter. If I can avoid the Hugger I will do so. The 52" Hugger does get great reviews on Amazon. Quiet, good air movement. Tonight I will measure the exact height on the 2nd floor. And Sochi--no hugger on the 9' ceilings. I'm thinking of using the one originally purchased for the bedroom in the 9' study. I'm leaning towards that white one pictured above for my bedroom. It has a tray ceiling so it is probably about 9+' high. My furniture in the bedroom is black, but the bedding is all white, so I think it will work. I painted my fan in the last house a white, and I loved how it looked, well, it still was a ceiling fan......See Morehuge decorating dilemma - please advise!
Comments (35)I'm loving all the ideas and am going to have a hard time deciding what to do now! Justgotabme- A BIG, thank you! I have such a hard time "visualizing" what the end product will look like and I really appreciate the time you took to help me out! Thanks to EVERYONE who responded for all your great ideas. This forum is awesome! I agree that the hole would definitely look better gone OR as part of the "built-in" instead of being just a separate hole. Now, if I can just figure out how to make that happen.... Here is another picture after we added something else to the hole tonight. Thoughts??? (ie. can we leave it this way until we fix it and not be too embarrassed?!) We definitely started leaning toward the 50 inch TV because it's HARD for me to find stuff that will look good in this room!...See MoreWhat to put in place
Comments (19)Euonymus alatus is invasive, seeding into wild areas via birds. The OP has said he want to get rid of it since it's totally inappropriate for the spot, so please stop extolling it on this thread. Espaliers don't fit the request for low maintenance. I am glad that Ken asked about the surroundings, since now that I look at the photo above, I think that many of the shrubs along the same side of the deck to the right look like ones that will get too large for the space based on how much they have grown since their last pruning. If you don't want to spend a fair amount of time pruning, you may want to replace those as well. So you'll want to decide if you want a variety of shrubs or a set of all of one kind. "I think that the flowers really stink." That's a really interesting observation. Is that only when they are newly flowering or during their whole bloom period? If it's longer term, I'll have to go check mine out, though I can't say I've ever noticed any scent at all from either my H. paniculata Pinky Winky or Quickfire, and I am fairly fussy about scents. I learn something new on GW all the time. TNC, based on what I can see in the photo, it looks like a sunny spot for at least a chunk of the day; is that true? Since comments about flowers and insects have come up, do you want showy flowers? Is anyone who would be using the deck either seriously stressed by having insects nearby or allergic to bees? Have you had issues with deer? Are you looking for privacy and so want something dense?...See Morelexiek
