Can I install backsplash before countertops

Hi,

My countertops won't be installed for another 2 weeks and I wanted to do back splash and also put in a vent range hood. I know the order is supposed to go countertop, backsplash and vent hood.

Since its going to be another 2 weeks for my countertop I was wondering if its possible to only install my backsplash in the area where the vent hood will go so I can install the vent hood and than once the countertop is installed finish the rest of the backsplash? My only concern is that the backsplash won't like up with the rest of the backsplash and it will end up looking weird. I was planning on doing subway glass backsplash. Could I also do a completely different backsplash where the vent hood will go so I don't have to worry about that?

Be patient. The countertop goes in first. Short term pain, long term gain.

Yes, you can do a different backsplash in the stove/vent area.

Agreed.

Sometimes when the counter is in, in your kitchen and lighting, things can look different.

You might change your mind in the backsplash.

nh baskets, you have a really beautiful kitchen. There are 2 advantages to doing the granite backsplash first. 1. the ability to change the beadboard to something else in the future. 2. The beadboard butts into the granite and no little crevices are left. We have 2 different types of beadboard in our kitchen. The stained beadboard on the sides of some of our cabinets (beadboard all ready on the cabinets before the granite backsplash was installed) and the dyi painted beadboard backsplash we installed about a year after the kitchen was done. I will caution you to be careful with Daltile since I had a very recent, very bad experience. Our tile guy bought what we requested and many things were not in stock. Very long story short, most of it came in little by little over the next few months. After 2.5 or 3 months the master bath floor was still not in (they missed two different dates on this one) and it wasn't going to be in for two more months. Everything else was already installed and designed around this floor and I had to pick something else. Just make sure they actually have it and don't trust any future dates they give you because they are just guesses and you may never get it. Oh, the customer service can't be considered bad since it is completely non existent.

Nope, and don't let him talk you into tiling from the top down and leaving the last couple rows of tiles until after the counters are installed. Your last row of tiles is under the cabinet so that where you like to put your cut tiles if everything lays out well that way. Ideally, your first tile that is next to your granite is whole and you work your way up (with whole tiles) until the cut tile under the cabinet. Tiling down won't look as nice. And if he tiles up, leaving enough room to slip your granite in, he is going to leave too big a gap between the first row and the granite.

Can I put Ancona back splash on existing backsplash without glueing

I have 30 inch range and have while marble back splash. Man it is very had to keep it clean. I want to put a steel sheet to keep it clean. I bought Ancona 30X30 steel back splash. I am not sure I can install on top of it. Has anyone tried? I don't to damage the existing back splash, but just want to go over it. Has anyone tried it ? If you think it may not work and place in Ottawa,ON that will help with this ?

Ok thanks. Another question..Who would I call to install the vent hood? I have vaulted ceilings and I believe there is a stud right in the center of where the vent hood will go. Is there a way to work around the stud?
